Really cool story from a friend that demonstrates the need for conference organizers to coordinate with unofficial sister events. This friend's company is organizing an exotic car racing event for 3 hours one afternoon during their industries major conference. From the main conference organizers perspective: If they know there will be a bunch of big CEOs away from the main show during the side event, they may want to make sure the big keynote doesn't overlap. They may also want to post pictures form the racing event on their own website to increase conference desirability. From my friends company's event: He'd love for the main event to include his side-event as "invite only" to give it credibility, recognition, and maybe lure some high value attendees to request invites.
