Aleksandra Mączyńska, Managing Director at BETTER FINANCE, speaking during the panel on the “Retail Investment Strategy: Does It Address the Priorities?” at the #Eurofi 2024 conference in Budapest, where three industry insiders reiterated that '𝘸𝘦 𝘩𝘢𝘷𝘦 𝘢 𝘨𝘰𝘰𝘥 𝘴𝘺𝘴𝘵𝘦𝘮,' firmly countered the notion that inducements-based advice is free. She argued that this is a dangerous myth that must be dispelled, emphasising that BETTER FINANCE’s research, including findings from France, reveals that 𝐬𝐮𝐜𝐡 𝐚𝐝𝐯𝐢𝐜𝐞 𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐝𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐡𝐢𝐝𝐝𝐞𝐧 𝐜𝐨𝐬𝐭𝐬 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐫𝐞𝐭𝐚𝐢𝐥 𝐢𝐧𝐯𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐠𝐡 𝐡𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐞𝐫 𝐟𝐞𝐞𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐥𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐫 𝐫𝐞𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐧𝐬. Beyond the question of hidden costs and #inducements, crucially, biased product recommendations lead towards expensive, underperforming products. Transparency and #ValueForMoney must be prioritised to ensure that financial advice serves the interests of investors, not the industry.
