Executive Search | Private Equity, Venture-Backed, Pre-IPO | Recruiter - Accounting & Finance, Marketing & HR

🛑 Misconceptions of non-exclusive search services, or contingent search: Belief: You can complete the search faster as multiple agencies are working on your open role(s). - Reality: While you may receive more candidates more quickly, the quality likely will not be as strong. You will spend more time on interviews – false sense of accomplishment. - Reason: Agencies are racing against each other to get a candidate over first (ownership) and cannot take the time to properly research, vet and interview and then choose to only send the true best candidates. Belief: You are getting the best candidates, again because more outreach is happening so you are covering more ground. - Reality: You may miss out on the best candidates because messaging to candidates not as strong or candidates are turned off. - Reason: With it being a race to submit candidates, recruiters cannot take the time for the best strategic messaging to get the best candidates interested (insert, mass mails – yikes). Plus the best clear cut candidates are all being targeted and now being contacted by multiple firms about the same role and likely with different messaging – therefore turned off. Belief: More people working on a harder search will provide better results. - Reality: Less actual work is being done on the search and it may drag on much longer. - Reason: If multiple people are accountable, no one is accountable.

This is spot on. It's the equivalent of a bad comp plan for a seller. It incentivizes the wrong behaviors.
