Thank you Nation's Restaurant News and Alicia Kelso for including Boqueria Restaurants and our thoughts on tech strategy in your June issue. In the interview, I shared how we keep our tech stack lean by eliminating two solutions for every new one we implement. This helps us stay efficient and cost-effective as we grow. One highlight: shifting from manual spreadsheets and processes to SpotOn's Teamwork saved us over 3,000 hours of management labor per year. By focusing on solving known issues, we are able to create real value for our team and operators. 🎯 Growing Through Adaptability in Tech & Restaurant Innovation 🎯 As the restaurant industry continues to evolve, adaptability is no longer just a strategy—it's essential. At Superorder, we’re not just keeping up with trends—we’re setting them. Our latest enhancement to the Reputation Management Suite is a prime example of how we’re pushing the boundaries of innovation. 🔧 What’s new? We’ve integrated features that allow brands to respond seamlessly to customer feedback, driving deeper engagement and operational efficiency. It’s exciting to lead projects that make such a tangible impact on both businesses and customer experiences. But innovation doesn’t happen in isolation. It takes collaboration, learning, and sometimes even failure to move forward. Here are a few lessons I’ve learned while leading growth: 1️⃣ Listen first: Whether it’s customer feedback or team insights, understanding the real pain points is crucial. 2️⃣ Fail fast, learn faster: Every setback is an opportunity to improve. 3️⃣ Stay future-ready: Tech evolves fast—if you’re not thinking ahead, you’re already behind. Grateful to be part of a team that embraces this mindset every day. Here’s to more growth, more learning, and more innovation. 🚀 #leadership #restauranttech #innovation #customerexperience #growth

Insights from Starbucks Co-Founder, Zev Siegl ☕️🌟 During the international seminar in San Francisco organized by ESCP Business School, I had the honor of meeting Zev Siegl, one of the minds behind Starbucks. Zev shared with us the 8 reasons behind Starbucks' success: 1️⃣ Right Business Model: Starbucks' success wasn't about inventing coffee but recognizing the profitability of this timeless product and innovatively positioning it in a changing market. 2️⃣ Perfect Timing: The rise of the Gourmet Culture and the increasing demand for quality food created the ideal environment for Starbucks to thrive. 3️⃣ The Power of Team: A diverse trio with complementary skills, united by a shared passion for innovation. 4️⃣ Strategic Funding: Starbucks' early success wasn't just about serving coffee; it was about engaging customers as investors, fostering a sense of ownership. 5️⃣ Financial Management: Professionals played a crucial role in guiding Starbucks through challenges and sustaining its momentum over the long term. 6️⃣ Mentorship: The founders sought guidance from Alfred Peet of Peet’s Coffee and Tea, making a simple phone call and an 11-hour drive for a meeting. 7️⃣ Exceptional Marketing: Starbucks' initial logo strategy, evoking an "old company" aura, coupled with their customer-centric approach, which included customizing drinks and names on cups, contributed to build consumer trust. 8️⃣ Customer Education: Fostering a culture of exploration and appreciation for the craft behind each cup. Thanks to ESCP Business School and Ramp-Up Lab for this insightful experience! #Starbucks #Entrepreneurship #Innovation #SiliconValley

What is the secret to scaling without losing your way? In a recent interview on the Acquired Podcast, Howard Schultz, the visionary former CEO of Starbucks, shared invaluable insights that will change the way you approach scaling your business. Schultz confronted the harsh reality of growth head-on, especially for a brand so ubiquitous as Starbucks: "Growth covers up mistakes, and success breeds hubris." He cautioned against allowing Starbucks to become a mere utility, losing the magic that sets it apart. As a company expands, complexity inevitably arises, demanding efficiency at all costs. However, Schultz insists that the sacred bond between the customer and the barista must be protected, even in the face of rapid growth. "Scale and ubiquity creates complexity. Complexity demands efficiency. But we are in a business where that touch point between the customer and the barista has to be protected and has to be elevated." Starbucks, Schultz revealed, is like a delicate child that requires constant nurturing. "That is an anomaly, inconsistent with scale." It's a unconventional approach that challenges traditional wisdom about scaling, but it's the key to preserving the heart and soul of your brand. Schultz shared a powerful analogy about the balance needed to sustain a reservoir – you can't simply keep making withdrawals without replenishing it. This is the secret to scaling without losing your way. Too many companies pursue "fool's gold," prioritizing short-term gains while neglecting the very qualities that made them successful initially. The stock price goes up and the company is making money, but it's actually losing it's conscience and soul. "It's camouflage," Schultz warned, "because eventually it's going to bite you in the ass." There's a bright hope abroad. Schultz highlighted Starbucks' Asian operations as a shining example of how to excel at both elevated service and financial performance. It's proof that scaling and maintaining your core values are not mutually exclusive. I think that Howard Schultz's words serve as a wake-up call for anyone striving to build an enduring brand that withstands the test of time. Nurture your company like a child, protect the magic that makes you special, and resist the temptation of chasing fool's gold. https://lnkd.in/e9CsmJu5

Remember that dust-up a few weeks ago, involving Wendy’s and the idea that they would use “surge pricing” at their restaurants? (Read more about that here 👉🏻 https://lnkd.in/g8HyuYS5) Wendy’s seemed to have tabled the idea of dynamic pricing, but not before it seemed like everyone spoke up against it - whatever “it” was. I want to go on record in support of Wendy’s, not in support of expensive burgers, but in support of disruptive thinking. Wendy’s is challenging the status quo, and more corporations should be doing this regularly. Why are we so quick to respond with negativity when a new concept doesn’t make sense to us? When did we stop celebrating new ideas? Where do we think we will be if we don’t support innovation? I’ll have more to say about this in the coming weeks. I hope you will join in the conversation! 🍔🍟🥤 #hospitality #tourism #innovation #bluesky #sustainableworkforce

The Restaurant Coach®️| 6X Amazon Best Selling Author - My mission is to work with independent restaurant owners that want to achieve the have-it-all lifestyle across all four domains: Body, Being, Balance, Business.
🔑CULTURE - An often overlooked element in the realm of restaurant success, yet it's truly the foundation that supports the entire edifice of your brand. Imagine culture as the rich soil in which your business grows. A barren soil leads to mediocrity, a fertile one allows for outstanding outcomes. It’s the lifeforce that differentiates those who simply exist from those who truly thrive in this industry. 🌱 Your team, your guests, they don't just buy your food or service, they buy into your CULTURE. They become a part of it, they live it, they breathe it. Your culture is what resonates with them, turning one-time customers into loyal fans. It’s the magical glue that binds everything together and takes your brand from good to great. 🌟 Your culture isn't just about the present, it's about longevity, it's about sustaining success in the long haul. Remember, a strong culture is a key that unlocks potential, it empowers your team and compels your guests to come back for more. 🗝 So let's ask ourselves: What is our culture? What values define us? And most importantly, how do we enhance it to build a long-lasting and successful brand? 💭 Your #RestaurantCoach, Donald Burns #restaurantculture #success #branding #hospitality #foodindustry #restaurantbusiness #restaurantlife #restaurantowner #businessgrowth #restaurantsuccess #customerloyalty #cultivateculture
