Today is Australia Day, but it's not a celebration for all. I'm not here to judge what Australia Day means to others or how they choose to spend today, but if you're not sure what all the fuss is about, this is a helpful article that could help you understand the perspectives of many First Nations people. If you're not sure how you could spend your day, there's some practical ideas in there too. Hopefully one day soon we can have a day we can all celebrate together. #YourOTTutor

Equanimity—calmness and composure, especially in difficult times—is something I learned growing up in the quiet yet resilient parish of St. Thomas. Like many of you, I’ve faced my share of challenges: overcoming shyness, finding my voice, and embracing a purpose rooted in service. But it’s through those very challenges that I discovered the true essence of equanimity. As Jamaicans, we are no strangers to hard work, resilience, and the pursuit of excellence. It’s these qualities that shape us, push us forward, and allow us to serve with unwavering dedication, whether at home or abroad. Serving our people, particularly the Windrush generation in the UK, has been one of the greatest honors of my life, reminding me how deeply our roots run and how far our impact can reach. As we celebrate our Independence, I invite you to reflect on your own journey. How have you faced challenges with grace? How have those experiences equipped you to serve others? Whether you’re Jamaican or not, now is the time to use those strengths to uplift your community, be the leader your family looks up to, and inspire those around you. Let’s exercise our independence by standing firm in our purpose, serving with heart, and staying composed through every twist and turn. Together, we can continue to build a Jamaica—and a world—we’re all proud of, no matter where we are. 🌍🇯🇲 Happy Independence, Jamaica! #Jamaica #Independence #Equanimity #ProudJamaican #Service #Resilience #StThomas #NCU #WindrushGeneration #GlobalJamaicans #Empowerment #ExtraordinaryEmpire

The thing about privilege is that it is often invisible to those who have it. Having privilege doesn't mean you are born rich or that you haven't had to work hard, it just means there are certain things in life that you don't have to think about. When we reveal these hidden privileges, we start to understand how the gaps that exist, in the economic, educational and health outcomes between Indigenous and non-Indigenous people, are formed. Understanding your privilege is one of the most powerful things you can do as an Ally because once you understand your privilege, you can start putting it to good use to help Close The Gap. ❓Would you like to understand the practical actions you can take to help Close The Gap in Australia? Join myself, Kate Kelleher and Carla Rogers next Thursday for our Privilege & Closing The Gap Webinar on National Close The Gap Day. 👉🏿 Get your tickets here: https://loom.ly/d0TT6u4

It takes JUST ONE more person to raise awareness of Cavernous Malformation. If every one in our amazing community has a chat over coffee or a walk with a person in their circle, about cavernous malformation, it is one more person that can comfortably say they know what a cavernous malformation is. If we are all talking to one more person, together we are making a significant impact. It's another way to #lightupforcavernousmalformationawareness Awareness campaigns can seem overwhelming, especially when the topic is #rare. 9moInterestingly the 8 ways haven’t changed from anything you have said in the past, so this is just a continuation of your message. Instead of just saying the date for Australia Day has to change, why not suggest a new date? Why not also explain why some First Nations people are fitting in with the rest of Australian society and some are staying remote? Does that need to change or what does need to be done to improve the lot of each side? Help us understand what needs to change and how so that people may be able to do something positive.
