How comfortable was I hiring and managing a team from 30 to 100 employees? Was our existing TAM big enough to grow 3-5x, or would we have to invent new products and go-to-market strategies to keep growth going? What challenges would we face as we hit unprecedented levels of scale? I remember sorting through these factors for my own company’s exit. My cofounder and I had a hard look at our business before deciding to sell, assessing not only our company performance but also the market dynamics. We ultimately decided to pull the trigger, but a lot of it was because of external factors. As a tech founder who has walked this path and now advises other companies, I've seen how critical it is to align your M&A decisions not just with a good strategy, but with timing, market conditions and pulse of your industry. In my journey, both building a tech company and leading transactions at ScaleView, I've learned that market readiness is not just a matter of internal strategy or financial metrics. It’s about sensing the right moment: When your product is hitting an inflection point in the market When industry trends align with your company’s strengths When your personal goals as a founder align with the strategic opportunity for M&A Making sure these were aligned made all the difference in helping us get comfort that the exit opportunity in front of us was worth pursuing. I now emphasize this blend of data-driven analysis and founder intuition in helping our clients decide whether the timing is right for an exit.
