Last week, the Circularity team at Creavis had the pleasure of hosting a workshop with experts from Evonik on kneading and extrusion technologies for the circular economy. Within Evonik, we develop many types of products and processes that contribute to recycling and thus to the circular economy. Scaling up to commercial scale is a crucial step in any development project. Then it is time to choose the right machine that fits best. We believe that kneading and extrusion technologies are central to the circular economy as they facilitate the efficient recycling of plastics and other materials. These technologies enable continuous processing of materials, high throughput and a sustainable cost structure. During the workshop, we had the opportunity to share experiences and insights from different business lines and departments on various extrusion technologies. We explored innovative approaches to optimize both chemical and mechanical processes with their specific process windows. A big “thank you” to all participants and speakers for their contributions to this successful workshop. The shared insights and discussions will drive the development of innovative solutions and further advance the circular economy. Evonik Creavis remains true to its commitment to a sustainable future and looks forward to further inspiring collaborations in this area. #Creavis #Extrusion #Recycling #CircularEconomy #Evonik

Sustainability at Siegwerk - Deinking Technology for Sustainable Packaging During the recycling process of printed packaging materials, quality is often lost along the way, leading to recyclates that are not up to the standard required to create new packaging materials. At Siegwerk we have recently unveiled our new deinking solution for UV-printed labels. The CIRKIT Clearprime UV E02, a new primer technology tailored for non-food packaging applications, offers a validated solution for the safe and economical deinking of UV-printed self-adhesive labels (PSL). This advancement enhances the recyclability of labeled plastic packaging and enables the recovery of high-quality recyclates, which are suitable for reuse in non-food packaging. By introducing CIRKIT Clearprime UV E02, Siegwerk has expanded its CIRKIT product range with an additional functional coating solution that aligns with the principles of a circular economy, thereby promoting deinking as a new industry standard to further improve the recyclability of plastic packaging. #Siegwerk #CircularEconomy #SustainablePackaging #Innovation

Hexagonal packaging represents a game-changer in sustainability for several reasons. Firstly, the hexagonal shape allows for more efficient use of space, reducing material waste during production and transportation. The compact arrangement of hexagons minimizes gaps between packages, optimizing packing density. Moreover, hexagonal packaging is inherently stronger and more structurally stable than traditional square or rectangular packaging. This durability reduces the need for excess packaging material or reinforcements, contributing to a decrease in overall material usage. Additionally, the hexagonal design supports a more efficient and eco-friendly distribution process. It enables packages to be arranged in a honeycomb pattern, allowing for greater quantities to be shipped and stored using less space and fewer resources. In essence, the adoption of hexagonal packaging aligns with sustainability goals by promoting resource efficiency, reducing waste, and optimizing logistics. This innovation showcases how thoughtful design can positively impact both environmental and economic aspects of packaging.
