Today, let's hit the next stop on GTJAI-s map – Asian Lights Out Day.
Asian Lights Out Day is an environmental event that takes place on the summer solstice June 21 (the longest sunny day of the year) in the northern hemisphere. Started in 2008, it is an initiative to turn off the lights in Asian cities for one hour to raise awareness of the growing environmental problems, and to encourage people to choose lifestyles that are energy efficient and environmental friendly.
We call on everyone to turn off the lights for one hour from 9 to 10 pm on June 21 to jointly take action for the sustainable development of the earth. Besides switching off the lights, we encourage everybody to live a greener and low carbon life by doing day-to-day little things.
• Prioritize walking for short-distance travel and public transportation for commuting
• Develop low-carbon home habits, recycle leisure items, separate garbage, and save water and electricity
• Reduce the use of disposable consumer goods, bring own bottles when you go out, use own tableware when you order take-out food, and bring your own recycle bags when you shop.
• Buy local ingredients in season and cherish food.
Low-carbon life is in the little things around us, let's take action together!
