End of week 1 of 2024! How are your New Years Resolutions Going? Sticking to them? Falling off the goals already? If you truly want to create a new habit, it's best to have 1) a goal that you want to achieve (incl. a substantiated reason why this matters to you) 2) Tangible metrics (e.g. do sports 3 times per week, or daily; drinking enough water) 3) Integrate "hooks" for you to do them, e.g. the glass of water in the morning - maybe place it next to your coffee machine the night before. Or for sports, set up times with a friend to work out, etc. 4) Tracking these - a calendar on the wall, on paper or through apps or activity trackers can help make these things less effort. I am personally a fan of the Whoop strap with it's app, but anything that works for you, is amazing For new habits to be forming, according to a study it takes 66 days with a range of 18–254 days, i.e. on average, you need to stick to a new activity for over 2 months daily to form a new habit So far, my New Years Resolution visions are going well! While it's an arbitrary time, it can also help to just get started!! #newyearsresolution #betterhealth

If only all my apps and systems were integrated as well as my calendar and my daughter’s immune system! A.k.a. “What to do when your child falls sick the same day you decided to fit in one more project to your professional calendar before the end of the year". The client request came in first: Could I help set in motion one more website project before the Christmas holidays? By the time I said yet, it looked like the equation might just work and I could fit in one more project between migrating my own website, wrapping up the year and still having time for a proper break. But as most parents know, your offspring’s immune system aligns perfectly and wirelessly with your calendar and to-do app: When the calendar saturation approaches or reaches 90 per cent, it’s a sign for the immune system of the little ones to start letting the intruders in. My client had barely closed the door after our website strategy session when the teacher’s name started to eminently blink on my phone screen. This year, I was saved by a lucky Black Friday purchase: my noise-cancelling headphones arrived just in time for the flu season! They are now standing between the soundtrack of Oddbots and the client’s website getting started. I can only trust that my flu shot stands between me and the rest of the bugs. Here are three other things that help me squeeze all the day’s work (and more) into a suddenly shrunken schedule: ✅ Work in bursts. Set a timer for 15-25 minutes (depending on your child’s age and attention span) and focus like crazy. It’s cognitively exhausting in the long run but works in situations where you don’t have a choice. ✅ Get out of the house if you can. We often take turns with my husband to look after the little one, and going to a coffee shop for my focus moments helps me get more done. ✅ Focus on the pure essentials. The unexpected sunny side of these sick days is that they clear your focus and force you to prioritise. What helps you focus and concentrate, when the unpredictable deroutes your day? #focus #workingparentlife #everydaycreativity

Is December always doomed to be a holiday slump? Not at Penbox. Here’s what we did to make last December our most productive and motivational month yet. Well, you know how December usually goes in the workplace - less work, more holidays. But at Penbox, we decided to turn the tables. We called it Project Bow 🎀 (like the bow on a gift, but what's in a name 😇), aiming to make December not just fun, but super productive. The idea was simple: get every Penbee (our awesome team members) to be able to explain Penbox to anyone at their Christmas dinner. Whether it's their tech-savvy nephew or their grandma who's still figuring out email, we wanted our message crystal clear. We broke this down into different streams, like making our website super user-friendly and the app experience a breeze. The deadline? Christmas dinner, of course! 🎄 Now, was it all smooth sailing? Not exactly. We were too ambitious – classic Penbox style! (But shouldn't we always aim high?) We had a few 'oops' moments and a lot of 'ah-ha' moments too. But guess what? The energy in the office was electric. Our Penbees weren’t just working for the sake of it; they were excited to help each other become the best Penbox ambassadors out there. So, I’m curious. How do you keep your team motivated in December? Have you tried something like this? Drop your thoughts below. Let’s share and learn from each other’s experiences. And if you want to know more about our Project Bow and what’s next, just ask. I’m all ears for a good chat or story! #TeamMotivation #DecemberProductivity #Penbox #Workplace #Innovation
