Over the years I have been in a few interviews that were like this SNL quiz show. Quite often interview questions and evaluations seem to determine if a candidate "does things like we do it". They confuse nuances in practice in their organization with common technical skills. When you ask questions that the candidate does not know the answer to, promote discussions. Maybe tell them the correct answer and see what they follow up with. As interviewing professionals, we owe it to our team and our organization to determine how a candidate thinks, learns, interacts, and problem solves. We also owe it to the candidates. Some are poor at interviews but have the potential to be excellent employees. Other candidates nail a technical interview but are poor problem solvers. And remember, a qualified candidate is also interviewing you.

Ask for Permission to Follow-Up Improve your follow-up approach with recruits by asking for their consent at the end of the interview. Frame it as a continuation of the conversation, improving not only their receptivity but also your likability. Remember: gaining permission changes everything. A Service Leavers Guide to Success, Serve Well, Leave Well and Flourish, Providing Ownership, Creating Direction, to Making Informed Decisions, Sleepwalker 👣 to Hunter 🐺
Forces Transition Group Ltd - Throwing paper aeroplanes ✈️. Are you getting this feeling? What we consistently see at the FTG is a lot of CVs being sent aimlessly, and the reaction of the sender is will it hit, will it not etc. A feeling of opening your emails with one eye open, one eye shut 💯. We need to move away from this feeling. This short clip is perhaps the best way to describe the feeling of sending a CV aimlessly, and then the feeling of hitting the TARGET. Many Service Leavers for example speed up the throwing of paper aeroplanes as they receive less return and more rejection, this is not a good place to be. The result of this, will generally be taking a job that you have too, rather than a job you want, ie. lack of choice. At the FTG we are seeing many hits, this is due to the way we structure, story tell, create flow, add achievement, use clear numbers and then understand the specifics of the organisation target. The CV Sessions are FREE and personal, a CV Session should primarily be done individually, not as a group. https://lnkd.in/eD4rGRYe You can book your CV Session at the link above, learning how to target and then exacting this will create way more success and give you that this CV will work, opening both your eyes when awaiting reply. In just 60 minutes you can take control of your CV, your future, your success, your paper aeroplane ✈️. Be The Hunter 🐺 Serve Well, Leave Well and Flourish!

https://lnkd.in/gd32sYvc "Effortless is a myth " As a career coach, I use analogies a lot and one of the best way to learn is by listening to those better than us. Everything requires effort. Your resume, your interview preparation both mentally and data wise, the job search process....etc. Roger summed up really nicely. Watch the video!

I believe sports are a great teacher. Even if you are not playing at a professional level, sports allow you to disassociate with from your conscious mind AND/OR practice intense levels of hyper focus. The mental side of sports has to be practiced, refined, and implemented in order to find success on the field, court, pool, or course. The mind should be trained just as much as the body when it comes to athletics. It is no different in business, you have to train your mind for different moments, whether it is being on stage for a presentation or pitch, or putting in hyper focus to build an important slide deck or grind through emails in a loaded inbox. Too often we look at the masters of their craft in sports or business and think, "Wow, they have it so under control", but more often than not, that is not the case! Recently Novak Djokovic (one of the greatest tennis champions of all time) was on 60 minutes, and one quote from the interview stood out for me from the rest: "I might appear maybe locked in, but trust me there is a storm inside." -Novak Djokovic It is a longer video, but the mental practice side goes from 3:17 to 4:50. Take a listen. https://lnkd.in/eCYvYiR6 #sports #mental #mentalhealth #focus #practice

To all the job seekers out there / if you are reviewing your CV this weekend, you can give your CV more impact by ensuring you focus on achievements and outcomes. For each role: What did you do exactly? What was the outcome of what you did? How was that measured and how did you do? Most CVs / Resumes focus on the functions of the job but miss out on the achievements and supporting facts. It's the achievements that the reader really wants to know about and it's the achievements that will make you stand out. "I managed the under 18s football team" becomes: "Managed the under 18s football team; through coaching and regular training sessions successfully moved the team from bottom of the league to second place, winning the coveted "ACME Plus Achievement" trophy" Key things: What did you do? How was your performance measured? What are you most proud of / key achievements? Have a good weekend all -
