Water Section Training The first water team training of the year saw the team going back to basics with throwline practice, conditional and true or tethered rescues, and using the quick release on our cows tails should we become stuck in a fast section of flowing water. Conditional rescues are when the casualty can help themselves to receive a throwline and unconditional rescues would involve a swift water rescue technician going in the water to ‘catch’ the casualty. January water temperatures were chilly at Watersmeet so we were thankful for our warm layers under our dry suits. 🔥 Weekend Firehouse Training Recap - RIT Tactics & Firefighter Survival! 🔥 This weekend, our team at Firehouse Training took a deep dive into critical Rapid Intervention Team (RIT) tactics and firefighter survival skills. We practiced using hose couplings to safely navigate out of a structure fire in case of disorientation – an invaluable skill when visibility drops and seconds count. Here are some essential tips for exiting a structure with a hoseline during an emergency: 🔹 Find the Couplings: Remember, the smooth side leads toward the nozzle, and the lugs indicate the direction toward the exit. Knowing how to identify these in zero visibility can be a lifesaver. 🔹 Stay Low: Always keep low to the ground where the air is cooler and visibility might be better. This also helps prevent inhalation of dangerous smoke. 🔹 Follow the Line: Keep a firm grip on the hoseline at all times. If you become disoriented, use the line to guide you back to safety by following it toward the water source. 🔹 Communicate: Always communicate your movements with your team, especially when following the hoseline out. Your voice is a key lifeline in ensuring everyone exits safely. Training sessions like these build muscle memory, ensuring that every firefighter can make it out safely, even in the most challenging environments. Stay safe, stay sharp! 💪🚒 #FirefighterTraining #RITTactics #FirefighterSurvival #FirehouseTraining #TrainLikeYouFight #HoseLineSafety #FirefighterSafety

Sometimes we use a MEWP for Rescue. Sometimes we Rescue from above. Sometimes we use Rope Access for Rescue. Sometimes we need to go up to go down for a Rescue. Rescue is not about one option only. The one constant for Recuers... Training ..Training.. Training. Then Debrief and Brainstorm. Falltech Unidrive is a great tool in the box. 75% of injuries sustained during a rescue happens to the Rescuer. " Slow is Smooth and Smooth is Fast" OSHA 1926.502(d)(20) Rescue Plan. A very small paragraph with Very Big Consequences ! Contractors...What is YOUR PLAN ?
