I absolutely love Dixie Crawford and everything she brings to the table for the reconciliation movement. We are so lucky to have such a powerful, clear voice in the space (of which there are many incredible indigenous voices) 🧔♀️ Leaders, a RAP is not something you do just “cause everyone else is doing it”. RAPs are an affirmative commitment to change, and that change will only be as effective as the tone that is set from the top. 📝 The RAP templates leaves a lot of room for personalization and individualization from firms. There is little dictating HOW you go about achieving change. Some leaders see the opportunity in this to craft really clear SMART deliverables. Some see these as tick boxes. I urge you to seize the opportunity, not just “complete” the steps 🏘️ Senior leaders need to be deeply ingrained in the “doing” of the RAP, not just the planning and marketing. Performative RAPs are marketing initiatives, Substantive RAPs create real internal (that then flows to external stakeholders) change. RAPs are an incredible opportunity that the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community is generously offering us to address the inequity that we are constantly talking about. Don’t take that opportunity for granted! Thank you Dixie Crawford for always championing this important message.
RAP Consultant | Aboriginal Community Engagement | Cultural Awareness Training | Host of Reconciliation Roadmap Podcast | 📍Ngemba Country
Suppose you have been tasked with the responsibility of implementing the RAP as an executive leader within your organisation. In that case, I want to encourage you to see this as an opportunity to set a new standard of practice and culture about how we consider, understand and respond, to the needs of First Nations communities. It is one thing to have an RAP; it is entirely different to have an RAP that has depth, meaning, and impact in this country.
