🕋 Hijri New Year 🕋 ECC extends its warmest greetings and best wishes for a blessed and joyful Islamic New Year to all. The Islamic New Year, also known as Hijri New Year, marks the beginning of a new year in the Islamic lunar calendar. It commemorates the Hijra, the Prophet Muhammad's migration from Mecca to Medina in 622 CE. Unlike the Gregorian calendar, the Islamic calendar is based on the cycles of the moon, so the Islamic New Year falls on a different day each year in the Gregorian calendar. #ECC #IslamicNewYear #HijiriNewYear #HappyYear

Ramadan Mubarak! Ramadan is an Islamic holiday of fasting and prayer. The most important Islamic holiday, Ramadan occurs in the ninth month of the lunar calendar, which is when Muslims believe that the Quran was first disclosed to the prophet Muhammad. The Quran is the Islamic holy book, which is believed to contain all the revelations made from God to Muhammed. During Ramadan, practicing Muslims fast, pray, recite the Quran, and refrain from all negative behaviors. The only exceptions are for those who are ill, traveling, menstruating, elderly, or pregnant. The first day is marked by the sighting of the new crescent moon. Because the phases of the moon vary each year, the first day of Ramadan also fluctuates.

Many people will not be aware that we have entered the new Hijri year 1446 and Sunday 7 July is the first day of the Islamic month of Muharram. Had it been the first day of the Gregorian calendar every one of us would know about it and some may have even celebrated it. Whilst as Muslims we don’t “celebrate” the new Hijri year, we have become somewhat detached from our Islamic heritage and many of us are oblivious of what lunar month or year we are in. Three of the pillars of Islām are carried out according to the Islamic calendar: Zakāh, fasting and the Ḥajj - knowing about the Islamic months and understanding them on a deeper level will help keep us connected to our Islamic heritage. It’s also important to note that The Day of Ashura falls on the 10th day of Muharram, which is expected to be on 16th/17thJuly 2024 in the UK this year. A day of fasting, reflection and remembering of historical events. #hijri #hijricalendar #islamicnewyear #muharram #arabicgems #arabic #arabiclanguage #arabicgrammar #islamic #islamicreminders #islamicreminder
