Hello #linkedinconnections Greetings of the day. Today we will see what is Special Periods in SAP FICO. Special posting periods that subdivide the last regular posting period for closing operations. Use Regardless of how you've defined your fiscal year, you can also use special periods. Special periods subdivide the year-end closing period. They therefore merely divide the last posting period into several closing periods. This enables you to create several supplementary financial statements. A fiscal year usually has 12 posting periods. In General Ledger Accounting , you can define up to four special periods. Integration When posting to special periods, you must take the following into consideration: The posting date must fall within the last regular posting period. You have to enter the special periods in the document header in the Period field, since the special periods cannot be determined automatically by the system. Note If you do not need 12 posting periods, you can use the posting periods that are not required as special periods. If you use these additional special periods, you have to specify the number you require in the field for special periods when you define the fiscal year variant. In an effort to reduce costs and to showcase personal achievement, one of the project leaders in my past, wanted to dump coupe of other SAP modules on me, in addition to my core module. I flatly refused on two grounds. 1. It's against SAP standards to have access two different modules in realtime as the very fundamental principle of ERP is lost. 2. I will not handle it as part of my personal working style, ethics and principles. His argument was : 1. I am getting to work on multiple modules and it's a learning opportunity 2. FICO module owned these other modules in his project 3. Couple of other fico consultants are handling it since few years 4. The leader himself knows multiple modules in addition to his core area. My counter argument was : 1. My decision has no relevance to what others are doing. If they are doing, it's their choice and in my opinion, they are wrong 2. This practice is against SAP standards 3. The concept ownership is highly questionable 4. I stick to my principles and don't budge to these pressures. 5. I know multiple modules, but this does not compel me to lay my hands on every one of them in realtime. It is not allowed by projects as well. They withdrew this idea for that moment. I stayed for few months and left the project for multiple reasons, including the one surrounding this issue. I have seen such wrong practices being introduced to save costs of hiring multiple module consultants. There is a bigger share of blame on the consultants in encouraging this practices and not staging any protest. I do what I think, feel and want. What is your take ? Our learning is our prerogative and corporates cannot use this against us to get their revenues up and costs down. If you allow, people take undue advantage. It is your responsibility to show yourself to the world. The more you show you are scared and vulnerable, the more you are exploited. Your exploitation is your own blunder. This should be 5 minutes max. Cut them off if they get into details about projects Project by project review Let them start with the latest project they are working on and ask the following questions: How long were you on this project? From which date to which date? (A short duration of less than 6 months probably means that they were not on an end-to-end project in all phases; Design/Blueprint, config, testing, go live) How many consultants were on the FI/CO team? What was the role of each consultant? What scope (FI; AP, AR, GL, AA. CO CCA, PA,PC etc) did you personally cover on this project? ( It is very difficult in general for one consultant to cover both FI and Co in one end to end project. This usually comes from multiple projects, one project covering FI for example and a second project covering CO..) What phases (Design, configuration, testing, go live etc) did you personally engage in for the above scope? (This will evaluate if they were involved in 2 end to end projects) How did you handle the design phase for this project? How did you gather business requirements?
