The applicant must be self-motivated and capable of working without close supervision. He would be expected to expand the existing customer base and would suit either a sell employed person or a direct employee. The wages would be on a price per test basis and could easily reach £800 weekly. The applicant would need a qualification in vehicular mechanics and capable of working as part of a small team and would be expected to assist in servicing duties, should the need arise. Automotive Technician pay. It’s sad to see so many businesses searching for experienced technicians but are unwilling to pay a fair rate. $30-$45 a hr is laughable considering most techs have $100k+ invested in tools and equipment. This industry will suffer until all repair shops pay salary or a hourly rate close to $80 a hr for certified master technicians. I currently work in a shop that is all salary and productivity and morale are very high. Regardless of where a tech works, they are expected to work long, physically demanding hours to repair vehicles that transport people loved ones. Low pay brings in low quality technicians. These low quality or untrained workers give the professionals a bad name by performing substandard repairs and they overcharge for the repairs. It’s time to demand better pay and training.
