When you think of the Caring Profession, what job roles come to mind? For me, it used to be (and still is) nurses, doctors, dentists, carers, and social workers! These incredible workers are fundamental to the caring world. If we thought outside of the box for a moment, what about counsellors, team leaders, HR workers, domestic support staff, housing teams, hairdressers, retail staff, and our emergency services? And this is simply naming a few. Many, many job roles involve individuals who care for and support not only patients, clients, and customers but also each other! Offering care and compassion to each other in whichever line of work we are in is fundamental to staff and individual well-being. In many roles, care and compassion extend beyond direct interactions with clients or patients. They also encompass how individuals treat their colleagues, creating supportive and collaborative work environments. This holistic approach to care and support is essential for the overall well-being of both staff and those they serve, highlighting the interconnectedness of different professions in fostering a caring society.

Job Satisfaction I am struck by Carol Bowser's comments on the workplace. I saw a video about how passionate employees lead to passionate customers. As I thought about my last hospital visit, I thought about the nurses who loved their job enough that it helped me do the hard work to make myself better. Despite the satisfaction, 25% of nurses are leaving their jobs and the industry. The cost for hospitals to replace these nurses is about 5 million dollars per year to replace and retrain nurses. Respect for nurses reduces costs for hospitals, clinics means that patients are cured faster and with more satisfaction. It's obvious how important this level of customer service is not only by making nurses happier but couldn't this be true of employees in the workplace. Passionate employees mean passionate customers. I think Carrol's work is so important. Thank goodness there are people like Carrol who believe in employees. Even the employees may on the surface seem toxic.
