This past few days, Explor has been #testing the latest version of our unique LightSpeed impulsive #seismic source tool. We have repeatedly been able to acquire ~2,000 SPs in a 12-hour shift, making this the fastest onshore source tool. Lab testing shows that this latest version should yield broadband data, but the real laboratory is in the #field. In this case, we tested the latest version of the tool to the point of failure in #Arctic temperatures: -27F, with wind chill making it feel like -60F. We now know that we need to spend the extra money on highly specialized components to deal with the extreme stresses imposed by the combination of the very strong impulse and extreme cold. A key part of testing in this extreme environment is ensuring that we have the resources and procedures in place to keep everyone safe.
