Very interesting document for the history of Brazilian oil exploration. This is the Final Report of the legendary American geologist, Walter Link, Exploration Manager at Petrobras, on the 1-RC-1-PR well, drilled in 1957, addressed to the Director of Operations, Geophysicist Décio Oddone, grandfather of Décio Oddone, former General Director of the ANP. It is not clear whether Petrobras is called Presibras, but Walter Link's conclusion regarding the low potential of the Paleozoic Paraná basin is clear. Bingo!

We're pleased to announce the results of recent reconnaissance rock-chip and grab sample analysis, which was conducted across broad areas of our prospective exploration tenements in the Minas Gerais region of Brazil, known as “Lithium Valley”. Single rock-chip and grab samples show encouraging presence of pathfinder elements, suggesting potential for LCT-type pegmatites within our Brazil exploration permits. The proximity of Perpetual’s prospect areas to existing tier 1 spodumene resources in the world-class Minas Gerais region of Brazil, as well as indications from these sample results, suggest further exploration success is likely once the highest priority areas are identified. Why it is important to drill deeper than the primary objective (ie. the story of "Boffus"). I had the fortune of working the Gulf of Mexico deep-water areas for Ocean Energy some 25 years ago. We participated in many exploration wells, several of which were big discoveries. This is the one that got away. The "Boffus" prospect, which I mapped on TGS 2-dD data is a large four-way closure under 10,000' of salt. Ocean formed a JV with Unocal to drill the first well (Dana Point) to a total depth of 26,850' chasing Miocene sands which are productive some 50 miles north of this prospect. If we would have drilled some 500' deeper than the TD we would have encountered Wilcox section that ended up being the St Malo field.
