As a parent sending off her child to college, I have been wondering about tools that will help college-goers the most, the first time they leave home. Adulting is about managing every aspect of one's time, over and beyond academics. And, doing this independently. How can one plan and run their Life Schedule? ✍️ Zoom out and think about your end goal for college. Zoom in now to the next level - what is your end goal for the semester? These goals could be related to fitness, sports, academics, social networks and/or mental wellbeing. ✍️ Now it’s time to plan at a granular level. What would your day look like? List out everything that you would be doing and hope to do during the day, and for 7 days of the week. How aligned is your time-spend with your semester goals and your overall goal? How balanced does your day look? ✍️ Once college starts, deadlines, admin processes, day-to-day responsibilities will seep in, and may overwhelm. Review your schedule and make time for these mundane tasks too. ✍️ The number of decisions that you take will exponentially increase, and again lead to overwhelm if you’re not used to being in the driver’s seat. The time you spend mulling over a decision should be proportional to its importance level. What to wear - 5 mins; What to select as elective - 3 hours. ✍️ Prioritise your tasks, based on both importance level and urgency (Eisenhower Matrix) Stayed up 2 nights in a row to finish a project? Prioritise sleep over partying. Making a plan may sound highly unappealing to an 18-year old at the threshold of experiencing a fully independent life for the first time. However, time management is a skill that many struggle with through their lives, and we may not always get it right. The more we think about how we want to spend our time, and how we want to lead our lives, the easier it gets. #timemanagement #collegestudents #collegefreshers #planningahead ******************* I’m building ZEN~It App, the easy Mindful Productivity app with Harini Sudersan. It’s early days since we launched our app, but many of our current users are college students 🙂 Explore more here - https://zenitapp.in

STEER’s Daily Signpost for your Year 6-7 transitions this week (giving you some simple, personalised strategies to help with #settlingin) Over the #transitionweek, you might notice a student like this: “I’m feeling a bit worried but I’m not telling anyone. They may think I’m being silly, making a fuss, or weak. If people ask, I‘ll say I’m fine, but inside I may not be. I might worry through the summer and struggle to settle back in September. Little things, done now, will help me” 💭 At STEER Education, we say this student has a low Self-Disclosure. Self Disclosure measures how visible students make their thoughts, ideas, opinions and feelings to others... Well, here are a few deliverable actions that you can try now: If you're using STEER Tracking in your school, you'll be able to see which of your students are low self-disclosing and need this personalised support... 💡 So give new teachers a list of their incoming low self-disclosing students as early as possible, with their photos. If You Want Your Teen to Be More Organized and Productive This New School Year, Start With This. It’s the start of a new session, a time filled with hope, new opportunities, and, let’s be honest, the potential for overwhelming schedules. As an academic coach, I have worked closely with teens, and one recurring challenge is time management. It’s not laziness; it’s the lack of structure. Many teens struggle to keep up with school demands because they don’t have the systems or tools to manage their time effectively. Here’s where we, as parents, educators, and mentors, come in. The goal isn’t to control or fix everything for them, the goal is to guide them in building habits that will serve them for life. Here are five practical ways to help your teen get organized and thrive this school year: 1️⃣ Co-Create a Daily Schedule Sit down with your teen and create a plan together. Ask them questions: What time of day do they feel most alert? When do they need breaks? Build a routine that balances academics, rest, and personal interests. Ownership builds commitment. 2️⃣ Teach Prioritization Not everything can be done at once, and not every task is equally important. Help them learn how to rank their responsibilities: What’s urgent? What’s important? 3️⃣ Set Up a Dedicated Workspace A quiet area for study can significantly boost focus. Let your teen personalize the space and it could be as simple as a desk with good lighting and minimal distractions. The environment matters more than we often realize. 4️⃣ Model the Habits You Preach Teens pay attention to what we do, not just what we say. If they see you setting goals, planning your day, and staying consistent, it becomes easier for them to mirror those habits. 5️⃣ Celebrate Small Wins Did they stick to their schedule for a week? Complete assignments early? These wins, no matter how small, deserve recognition. Positive reinforcement goes a long way in building confidence and motivation. Why This Matters? The habits your teen develops now will shape their future, far beyond academics. Time management, self-discipline, and organization are skills that impact every area of life. This school year start small. Focus on helping your teen build sustainable systems that they can refine over time. With the right support and structure, you will be amazed at how quickly they start to take charge of their own success. #BackToSchool #AcademicCoaching #TimeManagement #ParentingTips #Education

Returning to school as a full-time professional can seem daunting, but navigating a healthy balance between work and education in an environment like #GRF is feasible – and can be especially rewarding. Here are five tips and tricks for balancing work, school and life, courtesy of a recent #GRFintern speaker seminar: 1. Create a detailed “master calendar.” Keeping a thorough calendar is crucial for tracking competing obligations like deadlines, meetings and personal appointments. Combine professional and educational milestones in one place to avoid double-booking. 2. Set and maintain realistic boundaries. That can mean disconnecting from work when reading for class or refraining from late-night phone activity after a certain hour. Blurring the lines between school, work and life may leave you feeling burned out, otherwise. 3. Carve out study time and rest periods. Make sure to pre-plan when you’ll be focusing on school work and when you’ll have time to yourself, and try to stick to that schedule. It may be helpful to also designate a bedtime and shutdown ritual. 4. Keep up with mental and physical well-being. Inject periods of self-care and relaxation into your calendar. Schedule gym time and remember to take walks. 5. Utilize resources at work and school. Make time to meet with college advisers to discuss your progress. Our Benefits package also includes tuition assistance, #CPA incentives and perks, and continued education to help make professional growth more attainable. In student life, following a daily schedule is one of the most crucial habits for achieving academic success and personal growth. A well-structured schedule helps students manage their time effectively, set priorities, and create a balanced routine that includes study, rest, and recreation. Here’s why maintaining a daily schedule is essential: 🔹Time Management: A schedule helps students allocate time for different activities, ensuring they stay on top of assignments, deadlines, and revision. This reduces last-minute cramming and stress. 🔹Consistency and Discipline: Following a routine builds self-discipline, making it easier for students to stay focused and productive. Consistency helps in forming positive habits that benefit both academic and personal life. 🔹Reduces Overwhelm: By planning their day, students can break tasks into manageable chunks. This reduces feelings of overwhelm and procrastination, allowing them to stay motivated. 🔹Balance and Well-being: A proper schedule ensures students are not just immersed in studies but also dedicate time to relaxation, exercise, and socializing. This promotes both mental and physical well-being. 🔹Increases Productivity: Knowing what to do and when to do it optimizes productivity. A daily routine eliminates distractions and helps students make the most of their available time. The Downside of Not Following a Schedule On the other hand, not adhering to a daily schedule can lead to several pitfalls: 🔻Procrastination: Without a structured plan, students are more likely to delay important tasks, leading to stress and poor performance. 🔻Missed Deadlines: A lack of organization can cause students to overlook deadlines or forget about assignments, leading to academic setbacks. 🔻Inefficient Study Time: Without a set routine, students may not allocate enough time for thorough study sessions, resulting in incomplete understanding and lower grades. 🔻Burnout: Overloading certain days due to poor planning can lead to burnout. An unbalanced schedule may deprive students of rest, leading to exhaustion and decreased motivation. 🔻Disorganized Life: Not having a daily structure creates chaos in both academic and personal life, making it harder for students to meet their goals. Following a schedule keeps students grounded, focused, and prepared to tackle challenges while maintaining a healthy balance. Structure today for success tomorrow! #StudentLife #TimeManagement #DailyRoutine #AcademicSuccess #Productivity #Balance #StudentMotivation

Homeschooling while managing a career can seem like a balancing act worthy of a circus. But guess what? You already have everything you need to succeed. (Yes, really!) Here’s the secret sauce I’ve discovered for homeschooling success: 1️⃣ Leverage Tools: The right resources can turn chaos into harmony. I’ve curated a toolkit that turns "I can't" into "I've got this." 2️⃣ Tap Into Community: No one should homeschool in isolation. Our vibrant community is here to support, uplift, and inspire. (And we do, every single day!) 3️⃣ Structured Flexibility: Sounds contradictory, but hear me out. A flexible structure adapts to both unexpected work calls and teaching moments that turn into deep dives into the life cycle of butterflies. 4️⃣ Commitment to Growth: Both yours and your child's. Embrace the learning curve—it's steep but oh-so rewarding. I watch every day as working professionals become homeschooling superheroes. If they can do it and I can do it, so can you. Remember, you ARE what your child needs. Not just in education, but in life. 🌱 Let’s redefine the work-education balance together. 🫱🏽🫲🏼 If this speaks to you, pass the empowerment on by resharing! ♻️ P.S. Drop a "🏡💼" in the comments if you’re part of the homeschool brigade or just curious about it!

"According to new research by Pearson, many #students and #parents aren’t on the same page when it comes to the boundaries between #school and life. While 80% of parents believe their #teens have good #SchoolLifeBalance, only 45% of teens agree. “The disconnect can come from parents perceiving the time students spend on school work vs. other activities (leisure or otherwise) as relatively balanced compared to what they see in their own lives,” says Dr. Lorna Bryant, Head of Career Solutions, Pearson’s Virtual Learning division, “where work far exceeds the time they have for other responsibilities they need and want to prioritize.” ..."Many parents are pushing their kids to work harder at school because they want their kids to have enjoyable, financially stable #careers — a laudable goal. But the foundation of a rewarding career is actually a healthy school-life balance. The research found that students with a strong school-life balance often have a clearer understanding of their future aspirations, with 76% knowing what career they want to pursue. Conversely, more than a fourth (29%) report fair to very poor school/life balance and say it’s having a negative impact on their ability to start #careerplanning."- via Mark C. Perna in Forbes.
