My coming weeks will be related to the defence ecosystem. On that occasion, I have some news. The finalists for the 14th NATO Innovation Challenge have been announced, and Lithuania is making a big impact! 🌍 Five Lithuanian companies are among the final 11, showing their skills in finding and disabling mines from a distance. The final event will be on 12 June in Vilnius, where experts will look at these amazing projects. 🛡️🌐 Lithuania is proving it can handle big global problems. So, an interesting morning at #spacecommexpo2024 with themes of international collaboration and #infrastructure challenges (👀 Shamil Patel Cameron Cranwell) especially with respect to the UK’s emerging launch capability. Some insightful perspectives about the impact not only of launches per se, but of the number and frequency of launches, plus some fascinating future scanning on point to point space travel. 𝗧𝗢𝗚𝗘𝗧𝗛𝗘𝗥 we can achieve 𝗠𝗢𝗥𝗘 🤝 Innovation is born through 𝗰𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗮𝗯𝗼𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻. It’s something that Lithuanian laser industry knows very well. Ever since we started in 1966 our community has blossomed into more than 60 companies with 2000+ employees. We were only able to achieve that 𝗯𝘆 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗼𝗴𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿. And now, Europe 🇪🇺 is at a crossroads. We need and have to use our innovation to help those in need - Ukraine. In Lithuania we already have moved past a lot of roadblocks to enable SME’s, but there is still 𝗔 𝗟𝗢𝗧 𝗺𝗼𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗱𝗼. It is still 𝗛𝗔𝗥𝗗 to get access to grants & actions aren't taken fast enough. 💡 And now, as I prepare to attend the Paris Defense and Strategy Forum 2024 (on March 13-14), I’m reminded of the critical role 𝗰𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗮𝗯𝗼𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 plays on the global stage. France, an essential ally in strengthening #NATO, understands that technological superiority requires collective effort. Joining us will be Gitanas Nausėda, Benoit Durieux, Sébastien Lecornu, ROBERT JUODKA, Erika Kuročkina, CHETCUTI-KIRKILAITE Daiva Nicolas Cordier-Lallouet, @Marc DARMON and many Lithuanian companies such as Brolis Semiconductors BPTI, RSI Europe and more. I had the opportunity to: 🤝 Connect with inspiring young leaders and learn their ideas on the future of NATO 🎤 Learn from amazing speakers on stage 🎉 Celebrate NATO’s 75th anniversary 🇸🇪 Learn more about NATO’s newest member (finally): Sweden 📢 Talk about my favorite topics: Strategic Communication and combatting Disinformation What to take home after this day of inspiration, powerful appeals, and great conversations (apart from a rediscovered love for Kanelbullar)? 1️⃣ The "new" Generation Z is knowledgeable, capable, and more than keen to make transatlantic security future-proof! Decisionmakers urgently need to know their voices and get them on board! 2️⃣ Ever complex challenges need to be met with limited resources. We need to get creative and resourceful when addressing issues like disinformation in gaming communities, propaganda campaigns on social media, and the unprecedented implications of AI. 3️⃣ The age of European naivety is over. We must be prepared to defend the European project and our shared values as war is back in Europe (Rob Bauer, Admiral RNLN, and Yana Rudenko gave a powerful reminder of that).
