“Your habits determine your destiny.” Stephen M. R. Covey During my four- week #leadership training in the #Cohort58 with YALI Regional Leadership Center East Africa, I was able to complete a comprehensive course on ‘The 7 habits of Highly Effective People'. The course began by explaining to us the importance of Character ethic Vs. Personality ethic highlighting that the latter shouldn’t be focused on too much. This is because character ethic is more of what people do even when others are not in their space which is precisely what the 7 habits want us to develop. I particularly appreciated the opportunity to gain in depth understanding of the habits which are; ✨ Be proactive ✨ Begin with the end in mind ✨ Put first things first ✨ Think Win- Win ✨ Seek first to understand then to be understood ✨ Synergize ✨ Sharpen the saw It was important to learn these habits since the only way to actually cause change in one's community is by changing the way things were previously done. Heart to heart with #HiveAfrica It is the beginning of another week, and it's time for #sundayreflection titled - Lead with Purpose. As a global leader in your local community, one of the things you will have to embrace is that Effective Leadership begins with a clear sense of purpose. You must clearly: 1. Define your values and vision, and 2. Make sure they align with your desired goals. Next you must: 3. Communicate your purpose to inspire and motivate your team. 4. Encourage them to connect with the broader mission, so they get a sense of meaning and direction. 5. Regularly revisit and refine that set purpose, ensuring that it remains relevant and impactful. When you practice leading with purpose as a leader, you will be able to drive meaningful change, create a positive impact, and leave a lasting legacy in your career, business and community. Reflect on these 5 steps and get to action this week. No! There's no giving up! You can do it! II CEO, PIERRINE || SERIAL INVESTOR || BOARD MEMBER II INT'L CONFERENCE SPEAKER II PASSIONATE ABOUT AFRICA! II
So, I was part of this amazing session as a panelist yesterday. Thanks to ESOMAR (Joaquim Bretcha, Anna Alu and Jonathan Karanja) for making this happen. My Summary: 1. Have a 'why' for starting an agency - to improve or raise the bar in one way or the other for the insights industry 2. Craft a 'how' - details of how you will play differently and a 'what' - what you want to be known for 3. In the early days, all you have will be your personal brand and target market's perception of who you are - put your best foot forward where you work today, focus on building competence and more importantly, the ability to learn/unlearn/relearn. 4. Cashflow is king 5. It is a people based business - corporate culture is important, be clear on what the business is offering talent and what the business demands of talent. Pierrine Consulting runs the Zebra model (Purpose first, People next and then Profit). We value our people exceptionally, using a high performance 'trybe' based framework. 6. Mental toughness key - The entrepreneurial journey can be a roller coaster one. Connect to network/community of leaders/mentors who can make the journey easier and have ways via which you constantly upskill + upgrade yourself. 7. The multinational players have great tools, systems, thinkers and structures (I have been part of some of these) - of course built over time. The independent agencies have the advantage of restlessness, opportunities to innovate, the demand to 'build and fly while the aircraft is still been put together' (some might perceive this as chaotic), and the freedom to craft new paths quickly/disrupt current play. *All multinationals were at some point independents, but led by great leaders to where they are today. 8. Africa is in a growth phase now, more young professionals are joining the insights industry, and the momentum is building (88% phone penetration by 2030, 1-in-4 humans will be Africans by 2050 and by 2035, there will be more young Africans entering the workforce each year than the rest of the world combined). However, there is a need to bridge capacity gaps at scale across the continent, and then the innovations and collaborations will kick off more visibly. I am already excited at what different innovators across the continent are doing (Karlien Kriegler Dharmendra Jain Dr. Jasper Grosskurth) and there are more to come 'as the momentum builds'. Exciting times ahead.. and many thanks to the 2 other panelists (Sami Ghabrial and Andrea Rademeyer) #AfricaMrX #AfricaGrowthPhase #InnovationsLoading #AMRA

I am happy to share that I successfully completed the INSEAD Emerging Leaders programme! I have learned about: - the 3 domains of leadership: self, others and the task - the enabling conditions driving effectiveness and high performance - leading change in a digital context - the human / adaptive side as an addition to the technical aspects of leadership I have enjoyed the lessons and live calls with Profs. Declan Fitzsimons and Mark Mortensen, the group exercises and coaching, all of which have made this journey a very enriching experience. https://lnkd.in/eUXKSv49
