While we still fight many preconceived notions of what modular construction is or isn’t, we are winning! Visit a factory. What you see is what you get. There is no hiding anything when you visit the factory during a day when homes are being constructed. You have the opportunity to see inside of walls, look under the floors, and see how electrical, plumbing, and any mechanical/HVAC work is done. Homes are built with quality, name brand products that you know and trust. Because of the efficiency of the building process, you can get the superior quality of modular construction at no extra cost! The revolution of modular construction is here. Acclimation is a huge portion of our preconstruction responsibility. We must ensure that the building to receive our work is in it's final condition - with a sealed exterior envelope, fully-active HVAC, and temperature and humidity readings that are within acceptable tolerances. These tolerances change based on the building design, the material being installed, and even the time of year. This can be a very simply or a very lengthy process, and no two jobs are alike. This can be one of the most difficult preconstruction barriers that we deal with, depending on the project. At this project, the engineered wood floor has been delivered and stacked in such a way that the internal moisture can be drawn out by the building HVAC. This is parallel-to, but separate-from acclimation (where the temperature of the finish has to match that of the environment). Through constant monitoring, coordination with technical departments throughout the country, and the addition of properly-matched moisture barriers, we are very close to being ready to take this pile of wood and turn it into a beautiful finished building. Believe me, it's worth the wait.

Well designed and installed weatherproofing is integral to the protection of the building fabric, but also plays an important part in supporting the thermal performance of the structure. It is, therefore, crucial to consider the weatherproofing of a modular building envelope at an early stage of the building design. Our white paper on streamlining weatherproofing in modular construction covers: - The importance of modular buildings - Considerations for the weatherproofing of modular buildings including the integration of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing services (MEP) and daylight openings and sequencing & scheduling considerations - Dealing with building envelope penetrations Download our free white paper here - https://buff.ly/4aHl9XN. #WhitePaper #ModularBuildings #BuildingEnvelope

#POST_NO_140 #PLMG_NO_25 🔧 𝐔𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐏𝐥𝐮𝐦𝐛𝐢𝐧𝐠: 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐃𝐢𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐁𝐞𝐭𝐰𝐞𝐞𝐧 𝐖𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐒𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐢𝐜𝐞 𝐏𝐢𝐩𝐞𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐖𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐃𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐛𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐏𝐢𝐩𝐞𝐬 🏗️ Have you ever wondered about the intricate workings of your home's plumbing system? It's a network of pipes and fixtures that ensure you have access to clean water for all your daily needs. In the world of plumbing, two terms often pop up: "Water service pipe" and "Water distribution pipe." But what exactly do these terms mean, and how do they differ? Let's break it down: 𝐖𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐒𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐢𝐜𝐞 𝐏𝐢𝐩𝐞𝐬: In the realm of mechanical design, the water service pipe serves as the conduit that connects a building's internal plumbing system to the external water source. Whether it's a municipal water supply or a private well, the service pipe acts as the primary interface, channeling water from its source to the building's interior. From a design standpoint, considerations for the water service pipe include sizing, material selection, and routing to ensure optimal performance and durability. Factors such as pressure requirements, flow rates, and environmental conditions play a pivotal role in determining the specifications of the service pipe, necessitating meticulous engineering analysis and design. 𝐖𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐃𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐛𝐮𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐏𝐢𝐩𝐞𝐬: Once water enters the building through the service pipe, the responsibility of distribution falls upon the water distribution pipes. As mechanical design engineers, we conceptualize and design the intricate network of distribution pipes that traverse the building, delivering water to various points of use. The design of water distribution systems involves meticulous planning to optimize efficiency, minimize pressure losses, and ensure uniform water distribution throughout the building. Considerations such as pipe sizing, layout, material selection, and hydraulic calculations are paramount in achieving a well-functioning plumbing system that meets the building's requirements. In conclusion, water service pipes and water distribution pipes are integral components of plumbing systems, each playing a distinct role in ensuring the seamless flow of water within buildings. Through meticulous design, analysis, and implementation, mechanical design engineers contribute to the creation of efficient and sustainable plumbing systems that form the backbone of modern infrastructure. #MechanicalDesign #PlumbingEngineering #WaterService #DistributionPipes #EngineeringInsights 🛠️💧

Steel framing is an increasingly popular choice for residential and commercial construction throughout Australia. With the rollout of NCC 2022 continuing across Australia, including the move to NatHERS 7-star equivalent energy efficiency requirements, it is timely to remind certifiers, designers, builders and product installers of the correct application of thermal breaks in some forms of wall and roof construction. NASH has recently published a new Technical Note outlining energy efficiency solutions using the DtS Elemental pathway. Technical Note NTN-006 includes the following explanation of thermal break requirements in steel-framed construction: Thermal breaks – where required The NCC requires that thermal breaks be used in specific situations. A thermal break, of minimum R-value 0.2, is required where lightweight cladding and lining are directly attached to the same steel member (eg, stud, rafter) or the building is unlined. The presence of any secondary member (eg cladding batten or lining batten) made from any material negates the requirement for a thermal break. This applies to both walls and roofs of residential buildings and has been unchanged since BCA 2006. Thermal breaks improve the overall thermal performance of a roof or external wall element. More importantly, they reduce the potential for areas of low temperature to form on internal wall or ceiling surfaces, attracting condensation. NASH welcomes enquiries on any aspect of steel framed construction via its website at nash.asn.au.

As you consider your next project, you might be wondering: what exactly is prefabricated construction and why should I consider it? The simple answer is, it’s more seamless and efficient - words not often associated with typical construction projects. Prefabricated construction is a process where structures or elements of a space are measured and pre-built elsewhere, and then transported to the construction site for installation. This could include a full structure like a home, or smaller elements like HVAC, bathrooms, electrical and IT distribution, or walls, for example. Ultimately, the combination of trades in this approach makes for a smoother and less disruptive construction and installation process.
