What do you do when Devin Reed asks you to come on Reed Between The Lines in your hometown? You tell him, "Duh, of course," then bail on him because it conflicts with an in-person board meeting you're presenting at for the first time in your career. Ok, maybe just me? Devin invited me to record a second time in Brooklyn last April. And I couldn't be more pumped with how it all shook out. This interview is one of my all-time favorite personal/career moments. We had a real, no-filter convo about things I hadn't talked about before. Like: - Growing up in a now fourth-generation family woodworking business and how this shaped me as a human - Detaching my headspace and self-worth from achieving specific work outcomes and learning how to focus on what I can control - Evaluating my different career options last spring and the lightbulb moments that made me realize it was time to bet on myself All of the personal, work, and life experiences we talked about have made me who I am today. I'm so much more comfortable being myself and confident in what I can do. Check the video interview in the comments. The production is that good. Plus, you'll get to see Devin make fun of me a few times and how awkward my arms look in such a huge chair.

Case studies are like Jeep Wranglers. They're built for rugged paths but only used on smooth roads. 🏔️ Living in Texas, I see a lot of Wranglers ready for the extreme outdoors. The only catch? The mountains are 10+ hrs a way. They never fulfill their purpose. 📥 Many companies use case studies in a similar way Over the top documents that only see the parking lot of an inbox With no plans to take them off road to difficult conversations 🔭 So when is best to use a case study? If we think of a deal like a child - not at infancy, or toddler, but preschool The moment they need simple frameworks for how to get started 👀 What phrases are a sign now is a good time to send a case study? "Exploring options", "seeking solutions", "considering choices", etc i.e. when there is intent to mature without a plan to get there 🚙 Case studies are designed for the rugged landscape of evaluation Not the smooth roads of discovery or early engagement 🤪 Be wild. When roads get rocky, free the case study

Sometimes it’s cool when people get fired! Fifteen years ago today, Parklife’s founder, Brian Castle, was fired from his last job. We are thankful for his firing, and glad that it was done with enough malice to make him rethink his career. Now, Parklife is 18 people strong. Like Brian, many of us are misfit toys, and we’ve found an island where we can be authentically ourselves and thrive with our clients and each other. Cheers to Brian getting fired and finding his true passion in building a creative agency! 🍾 #MarketingAgency #MarketingSolutions

Incredible video from Jesse Cole from the Savannah Bananas at Fenway Park talking about seizing the opportunity, slowing things down and giving the fans their moment! Although this is about baseball and showmanship, I cannot help but relate to how this simple theory of slowing down, being in the moment and personalizing the moment matters in healthcare. And as we embark on the new Medicare GUIDE model for Alzheimer's and dementia care, the aspect of personalizing care and slowing down will become even more important. At PocketRN, we believe that nurse lead care is the key to driving ongoing, sustainable outcomes because nurses are the changemaker's, the empathetic people who relate, listen and care. Nurses personalize care delivery by focusing on things that matter to the patient. The things that a patient can relate to, and the needed motivation patients and their caregivers need to be involved! So, even though this video is about baseball, it is also about slowing down and being impactful! Cheers to all the nurses, athletes, entrepreneurs, healthcare professionals and good humans out there who are making a difference and personalizing experiences, one person at a time.
Owner of Savannah Bananas, Creator of Banana Ball, Author of Fans First & Find Your Yellow Tux, Keynote Speaker
Fenway Park was the biggest challenge we've ever had as an organization. Before the game, we had our Fans First chat with over 200 plus employees, players and cast members and I shared with the team how we could be our best in the moment. From Day 1, I've always believed in focusing on the fans first. But when facing real adversity, we often need more than just that mindset as our north star. We need to know how to put the fan first. What I've learned is that the greatest performers know how to slow things down. When things speed up, they can focus even better on what's in front of them in that moment. I shared how while we would have the most eyes on us we've ever had, it was the eyes right in front of us that mattered most. My goal was for everyone to take the extra time with fans, embrace the moments and truly be present. If we did that and focused on one fan at a time, everything else would take care of itself. After the game, I was truly proud of everyone on our team. I heard countless fans first stories and moments shared by our group and by fans all over social media. With every challenge, we get better and learn more. But who we are, what we stand for and the heart of this organization will never change.
