#Paris 2024 #Olympic Every Olympics leave us inspired by world class athletic performances. But the potential of the Olympics to positively transform the host city for good has been harder to obtain. London 2012, was a gamechanger for cycling in the capital. Cycling numbers rose substantially during the Games — up 20% on bridges and 67% near the Olympic site — and city cycle hire numbers hit a million in a month for the first time. The shift to cycling has been part of the London2012 legacy. Paris is poised to outshine London is this respect. It's greened streets and cleaned the Seine for swimming. The expected ten million games visitors are being encouraged to use the new Olympic cycling network for this year’s Games. 34 miles of new routes have been built in just over two years, adding to an already growing network, to make Paris the first fully cyclable Olympic Games of the modern era. The network has been provide 20,000 new cycle spaces, both permanent and temporary. Paris #bikehire number now exceed 30,000; mostly electric bikes. The city estimates now there are half a million bike trips in Paris every day, making 11% of the city’s total, against around 5% in 2019. #cycling #activetravel
