I cannot stress enough that STEM is more than the acronym. It is GOOD teaching-- a pedagogical tool that provides access, inclusion, and equity through experiential, trans-disciplinary learning. STEM can and should be integrated into all classrooms, and it is easier to do than some of us think! Our program is geared toward just that. In 11 months, you will earn 30 credits, learn practical ways to incorporate STEM across subject areas, learn grant-writing and leadership skills, and if you so choose, become prepared to pass the Praxis II in Technology Education for the 047 cross-endorsement. We were so proud to partner with EducationCounsel and the team at Alliance for Learning Innovation (ALI) to lead this work! To better understand the current state of affairs and chart a path forward toward an appropriately sized, inclusive, and equity-centered education R&D infrastructure at the federal, state, and local levels, the Alliance for Learning Innovation (ALI) convened three diverse, nonpartisan task forces over the last year to dig into three critical, urgent priorities: - - Strengthening state and local education R&D infrastructure - Making the education R&D ecosystem more inclusive - Expanding and strengthening the role in education R&D of Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), Minority-Serving Institutions (MSIs), and Tribal Colleges and Universities (TCUs). I am not exaggerating when I say that my success as an academic, my motivation to pursue a PhD, and my passion for research all started from 1 signature experience I had as a college freshman. After taking part in the ACCESS program at LMU, I started my path on pursuing higher education. The ONE program had a lasting impact on my life. Now I have the opportunity to provide the same support to first time freshman at CPP through the BASES Scholars program. The Black Achievement Success and Engagement in Science (BASES) Scholars program builds a community of support for Black/African American student scholars by providing financial, academic, and mentoring resources throughout the students' first year. BASES Scholars promotes Black Excellence through curriculum that is responsive to the legacy of the African and African American Diasporas taught by faculty of color within a cohort model. The partnership between the classroom experience and Black Resource Center (BRC) fosters a community who shares an interest in the historical, intellectual, and political traditions of Black Americans, and engages with the Black community at Cal Poly Pomona. For the next TEN DAYS, we are fundraising to continue to support the BASES Scholars program. While we are actively seeking federal funding, the program is currently funded based on year-to-year funding.
