Did you know that many hard-to-recycle plastics are bypassing landfills and incineration in the USA thanks to advanced recycling technology? ExxonMobil's Baytown Texas facility has the capacity to process more than 80 million pounds of plastic waste per year — and Canada needs to be next in line for similar success. Scroll to see three items that could soon become recyclable in Canada thanks to ExxonMobil and Imperial Oil recycling innovations. #SavePlastics #AdvancedRecycling

Less than 10% of plastics are recycled today, while the rest goes to landfill, incineration or , worse the environment. In December 2022, we started up a large-scale advanced recycling facility in our Baytown facility – one of the largest advanced recycling facilities in North America, capable of processing up to 40,000 metric tons (80 million pounds) of plastic waste per year. This is equivalent to more than 300 Olympic-sized swimming pools filled with more than 70 billion plastic bags that could have otherwise gone to landfill or incineration. Beyond Baytown, we expect to expand annual advanced recycling capacity to 500,000 metric tons (1 billion pounds) by year-end 2026 across multiple sites globally. That's significant. ExxonMobil Baytown Area is committed to finding solutions to create a safer and cleaner world for our community and future generations. #baytownstrong

New York State's landmark waste reduction bill, the Packaging Reduction and Recycling Infrastructure Act, would dramatically cut the amount and toxicity of plastic garbage New Yorkers throw away by targeting the source. Notably, it would shift the cost of managing plastic waste from municipal governments and taxpayers to the companies that produce it — including oil majors like ExxonMobil, Chevron, and Shell. The ethane feedstock used to produce plastic drives demand for shale gas wells making the bill a win for public health in NYS and beyond. Exxon Knews reports on efforts by the oil and chemical lobbies to weaken the legislation. https://lnkd.in/emXJHzxP

#recyclingindustry #oilandgas #plastics #renewableenergy By far one of the most compelling solutions I’ve seen to our overwhelming global plastics garbage — brought to us by a team of oil and gas experts in Canada. Bring in the train loads of plastic garbage from our oceans and refuse headed for landfill and repurpose back to the industries that use them. Attention #renewableenergy investors. This one will generate cashflow while cleaning up the planet. https://lnkd.in/euBwN64W

Chemical/Materials Consultant -- My expertise is using my background in chemical technology to improve a company's chemical process profitability or taking bench scale processes into pilot or full production.
Did you know that companies like ExxonMobil, Dow, and Eastman are investing in chemical recycling to turn plastic waste into valuable products? This new process breaks down plastic waste into its original building blocks, which can then be used to create new plastics or other products. Not only does this reduce plastic waste in landfills and oceans, but it also creates new opportunities for a circular economy. April 8 article by Ben Seal, EHN. Excerpt - Celeste Meiffren-Swango, state director for green advocacy group Environment Oregon, said the failure of operational chemical recycling facilities to reach their announced capacity leaves them in an extended “startup phase.” Given the financial challenge of scaling up and the operational issues at some plants, she doesn’t expect that to change. #chemicalrecycling #advancedrecycling #plastics #microplastics #greenwashing #texas https://lnkd.in/eq8a7r5T
