The Banking & Finance Undergraduate Program provides students with the knowledge, understanding, and skills required to analyze and evaluate real and complex financial problems of banks and financial institutions, as well as to design solutions for these problems.

What better way is there to serve our customers than knowing them deeply – their struggles, challenges, barriers, needs, desires, and motivations? This way, we can transform the country through human-centered digitization initiatives that are tailor-fit to serve the people that need our financial assistance the most. For them to listen, they must first feel heard. When we connect, they cooperate. When we communicate, they trust. And with our customers’ trust, we grow. At RCBC we first asked: how can we utilize technology safely and securely to ease the many challenges Filipinos face every day? By banking with a heart, which is what our “Innovations with Empathy” mantra are hinged upon. We must first deepen our relationships with the people we serve. What use are innovations if they are not built on a deeper understanding of its target market? Without empathy, technology - as advanced as it is - loses its meaning and impact. In Spring 2023, I applied for a course on banking research. I didn't realize at the time how great of an opportunity this would be to grow my professional skills and knowledge of the industry. Having finished up the semester, my group has completed an initial draft for the Conference of State Bank Supervisors (CSBS) Community Bank Case Study competition. We have been researching how the bank closures of 2023 affected community banks. I would like to thank Carl F. Larsson, Ph.D. for the great semester. While we waited for the case to come out, we focused on personal growth and preparing for our careers. We would meet with different professionals in industries ranging from hedge funds, banking, and capital management, giving us opportunities to learn from experts. My highlight was meeting with the JMU College of Business Finance Executive Advisor Board and presenting what we had been working on, concluding with an open discussion break-out session. Finally, we met with many resources through JMU learning about each other’s strengths, conducting interviews, and preparing to be a good leader. I feel confident continuing our research next semester and finalizing our case study using the countless skills I have learned through this class. I would like to thank Professor Larsson, my teammates, and all the guest speakers who took the time to make this class special. I’m excited to share that I have successfully completed the Commercial Banking Job Simulations certification from Forage. This certification is designed to help learners develop the essential skills and competencies required for a successful career in commercial banking. As part of this certification, I had to complete five realistic and hands-on tasks that simulate the work of a commercial banker. These tasks were: Entering a company’s most recent financial statement Preparing a Capitalization Table Preparing a company and industry overview page Preparing a deal structure overview page while considering quantitative and qualitative analyses Preparing a 10-year Financial Model Forecast These tasks challenged me to apply my analytical, financial, and communication skills to real-world scenarios. I learned how to evaluate a company’s financial performance, assess its capital structure, identify its industry trends and competitive advantages, propose a suitable deal structure, and forecast its future cash flows and profitability. I’m very proud of the work that I have done and the feedback that I have received from the instructors and peers. I believe this certification has prepared me well for the dynamic and rewarding field of commercial banking. #Context: I am working on a project where I have to analyse and find out something new, more of technical that can be coupled to banking services making it more easy for the people, to perform majority of the work by themselves. So, I was just analysing the practical aspects of things and that made me actually find two contrasting scenarios: One is of my hometown, being more of in #rural area🏚️ I remembered that when I visited the bank to get my account opened, then I needed to fill a form.I did. Seeing me filling the form, I saw around 2 -3 females (30s)approached me to get their forms filled to because they don't know how to fill the form ; (B)Today only, I visited ATM, and I saw an old lady , I guess her age was 60+, she was using ATM🏧 machine and that too in English language and seeing that I just realised how the #stark contrast between the what you gain being in Urban area or simply what you are still deprived of being into rural area(obviously literacy is the core). 💎These are scenarios of life which compel me to think, that what actually as a country we need first, more into technology or actually making aware to the larger segment of population about these first especially in finances(which is still very less). ✅Do let me know your views too ✨ #Urban #rural #gap #literacy #finance
