En-Bloc Capsulectomy for Breast Implant Illness (BII) is Unethical: Performing "En-bloc" capsulectomy for self-reported Breast Implant Illness (BII) poses serious surgical risks and deformation to emotionally vulnerable patients without scientific or medical justification. It's crucial to address the ethical implications of such procedures, considering the well-being and safety of patients. 1- Misrepresentation of Facts: Claims surrounding "En-bloc" capsulectomy for BII may contain misrepresentations of fact, leading to deceptive or misleading information. 2- Exploiting Emotional Vulnerabilities: Appeals to patients' fears, anxieties, or emotional vulnerabilities are unethical. Plastic surgeons have a duty to prioritize patient well-being and provide evidence-based care, rather than exploiting emotions for personal gain. 3- Patient Solicitation: Initiating contact with prospective patients who may not be in a position to exercise reasonable judgment is unethical. As members of the plastic surgery community, we must uphold the highest ethical standards and prioritise patient safety above all else. Let's work together to promote transparency, integrity, and evidence-based practice in our field. https://lnkd.in/eSJCf5FE #PlasticSurgeryEthics #PatientSafety #BreastImplantIllness #EvidenceBasedMedicine #MedicalEthics #PatientEducation #TransparencyInHealthcare #EthicalPractice #PlasticSurgeryCommunity #PatientAdvocacy #HealthcareStandards #BreastImplants #BreastAugmentation #PlasticSurgeryEducation #plasticsurgery #plasticsurgeon #plasticsurgeons

I published my first book chapter last year. 𝘾𝙖𝙣 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙥𝙪𝙗𝙡𝙞𝙨𝙝 𝙤𝙣𝙚 𝙩𝙤𝙤? Early last year, one of my seniors and mentor Dr. Prasanna Venkatesh reached out and mentioned that he had an opening in a book chapter publication and whether I would like to contribute to it. My response was a no-brainer and I am extremely grateful to him for this opportunity. Here are some differences to keep in mind when publishing a chapter: 1. Most authors are invited authors of repute, who have published extensively. The chief author does reserve the right to choose his or her co-authors. This is how junior authors find their way into publications. 2. Referencing should be extensive. Photos should be well illustrated. Content should also be all encompassing, yet relevant and succinct. 3. Communication is made directly with the chief author of the book, and the publisher. Sometimes that makes the communication slow and tedious due to a lack of a defined portal for submission. 4. The publishing house of the book matters. It also determines the reach of this book globally. 5. Publication costs are very expensive. Online print or physical print does levy into the cost, as well as reach and citability. Though the process is extensive, requires a considerable amount of time, even in comparison to review articles, the joy of having your first book chapter publication is unsurpassed. Many dedicated young researchers produce excellent work but often struggle to find the right journal for publication. It's common to see queries in social media groups asking for: 1. Recommendations for reputable journals in surgery, neurology, or other fields. 2. Suggestions for journals accepting letters to the editor. 3. Information on journals that do not charge article processing charges (APCs). It's important for researchers to be aware of tools like JANE, Elsevier Journal Finder, Wiley, Springer, and others that can help match their manuscript with suitable journals. Watch this comprehensive video tutorial on how to use a journal finder tool to streamline your publication process. https://lnkd.in/dtErT-3v

Read our recent editorial introducing our North American Editorial Board Members. Also watch out for our next two editorials introducing the remainder of our board. https://lnkd.in/g__3xCs7 As previously posted we have taken a different approach to your typical journal Editorial Board. This is very necessary in today's world where many if not all high impact journals are being swamped with papermill type submissions. To mitigate the impact of this activity we have extensively expanded our board to both increase the quality of our review process, but also expand our advisors in the many diverse subject areas touching on wounds. All of the individuals are experts both in the subject but also within their geographical areas. To be truly international we need that breadth of coverage. But rest assured our EBM's are more than an extensive review panel. Each are important in respect of the continued evolution of the IWJ in its third decade. Each are important to ensure the valuable research ongoing in their region gets an international profile. Each are important in the battle against the papermill war, protecting the integrity of our research area. We learn from each other, we evolve through a shared experience, being part of the IWJ Editorial Board provides a platform for equitable visibility of research. This is important in the continued evolution of the clinical specialization of wound care. If you wish to publish in the IWJ but don't know where to start reach out to the editors or your regional board members and seek some advice. #IWJ #wound #journal #international
