Happy New Year! As I reflect on the years behind me and prepare to step into the year ahead, one word comes to mind: unknown. We aren't given any guarantees in this life. We experience growth and change and loss and success and hardship and new joys almost every day. We can step into this year with goals and plans and aspirations, only to have them derailed by unforseen obstacles. Or, they can be accelerated by unexpected fortune. Whatever, the factors, and whatever the outcomes, our guarantees are that nothing is certain. Maybe you're reading this, and it sounds bleak, but try reorienting your perspective. Feeling out of control can be scary. But, it's also a freedom. It's freedom to hold certain things more open-handed, and to forgive ourselves when we don't get the results we wanted. It's also a freedom, to seize opportunities we couldn't have planned for, and to celebrate the wins that we didn't achieve alone. Let 2025 be a year of freedom. you don't have to be in control and you don't have to win, and you don't have to be it all. All you need to do is show up, and bring your A game.
