#ThrowbackThursday to 2018 when City of Chicago approved the O’Hare 21 Plan, a massive $8.5 billion project to modernize O’Hare International Airport. CCS played a crucial role in the Master Plan, from runway modernization to marquee passenger amenities. We worked on projects like runway extensions, renovation of Admirals Club, and upgrades to concourses and corridors. We also contributed to the development of an Aviation Fuel Master Plan Study and the installation of an Engineered Materials Arrestor System (EMAS). To my property industry network - you are probably sensing that some opportunities are emerging in a new asset class - the air taxi vertiport to support a revolution in the way we move people and goods. The industry looks certain to start in Dubai with frontrunners Joby Aviation and Archer likely to be ready for commercial flights within 18 months. From there it is expected that American and Europe based air regulators will approve operations and our own regulator, Civil Aviation Safety Authority will then accept these aircraft into Australia for commercial operations. The success of the industry is dependent on new vertiport landing sites outside of existing airports and helipads and there is strong support for the land use planning changes required to facilitate this from from Federal and State Governments. Australia is currently behind vertiport preparations going on in other parts of the world. Project of a lifetime

This is a great system that brings future technologies within reach of small to medium size Airport's. Well worth considering. Making good use of data to enhance the efficiency of air traffic services.

It’s a big few months ahead for our team at Queenstown Airport (ZQN) with the commencement of a $23 million airfield safety project. Engineered materials arresting system (EMAS) beds will be installed at both ends of the main runway. Queenstown Airport is the first in Australia or New Zealand to use this innovative technology, which utilises cellular cement blocks that crush under the weight of an aircraft. These are designed to slow a plane to a safe stop with little damage, should one overshoot the runway. As Chief Executive Glen Sowry says - “EMAS technology has proven its worth in the northern hemisphere, and we are proud to be leading its introduction in this part of the world. It’s the gold standard and will substantially increase the margin of safety for those landing here.” Queenstown Airport operates with a runway end safety area (RESA) of 90 metres, and the EMAS will provide the same protection as a 240m RESA. A sod-turning ceremony was held to mark the start of the project, with representatives of the airport company and the head contractor, Downer wielding the spades. More substantial earthworks are now under way at the Shotover end of the runway to prepare for the construction of new pavement, on which the EMAS bed will be laid. Work is being done at night, starting after the last scheduled flight has landed. No work is planned for Friday or Saturday nights. There will be no disruption to flight schedules and no change to the types of aircraft that may land at Queenstown Airport once the EMAS is installed. #Safety #Aviation #Leadership #Tourism
