Although Consulting hiring at Cambridge was more than that of Stanford , Harvard, and Haas, it remained behind the T20 MBAs' average. The Public Sector and NGO placement that is rare in a full-time MBA found 4% representation according to the 2023 Employment report from Cambridge MBAs – a rarity in a T20 school. MBA/MS Admissions Consultant | Helping young professionals navigate their way to their dream universities
- Is a GMAT score 710 enough to get into London Business School (LBS)? - Do I have enough peaks on my resume? - Male, engineer, consultant – How do I stand out? These were just a few of the questions Kanishca Taneja and I grappled with at the start of his MBA application journey. As a male engineer in consulting and growth from a Tier 2 engineering school (yes, PEC is a Tier 2 school: p), Kanishca’s profile was typical in many ways — the very definition of 'overrepresented' in the MBA world. However the focus was to turn this rather conventional background into a compelling story, eventually securing him a spot at London Business School and IESE Business School (with scholarships). Challenge #1: Common Background: Coming from a field swarming with applicants, the challenge was not just to stand out, but to shine. Challenge #2: Perceived Academic Handicap: A 710 GMAT and a degree from a Tier 2 school might seem underwhelming for top-tier business schools like LBS However, rather than focusing on his accolades as a consultant or the growth strategies he developed, we delved deeper. Instead, we explored 1) Unique Career Goals: Both long-term aspirations and immediate objectives. 2) Personal life events and career choices – How his unique personal and professional experiences shaped his decision to pursue an MBA. The crux of the application hence became about why he needed an MBA, rather than how he excelled in what he already did. It was about articulating how these B-schools would serve as catalysts in his career trajectory, eventually getting him top school admits Congratulations Kanishca Taneja! Hope you continue to make it big at LBS. This is just a start :D PS: For anyone wondering how to make their common profile unique, it's not just about the peaks in your resume; it's about the the stories and values they hold. Follow and stay tuned for more MBA application gyaan :)

On 'FT Global MBA Ranking' day, Deans, faculty, staff, alumni, students, prospective students and all stakeholders should remember: 🥂 It's a great achievement for any MBA programme to be in the top 100. 💹 It's a relative ranking, not a score or rating. An MBA can have improved on most or all criteria and still drop in the ranking (and vice-versa). 🤫 You can't shout about your success and claim credit if you go up and then ignore or criticize the rankings when you go down. 👩🏫 This is a ranking of 1 programme. For many schools, it's not even their only MBA programme, let alone their only Master's programme. 🥇 If your MBA is higher than another, it doesn't mean it's "better" (as many of the social media posts today are claiming). This is no universally agreed objective measure of absolute quality, nor is it an accreditation. 🔢 Many criteria with different weightings make up the ranking. Familiarise yourself with the methodology and make your mind up depending on what matters to you. 📉 Trends are more important than blips. 👨💼 The careers service is not primarily responsible for the outcome, nor are they the ones who should be leading a post-ranking review. 👴 Alumni have the potential to influence the outcome more than most, not just from what they say in their surveys, but from giving back. 🌍 It's problematic to make direct comparisons across geographies, with entirely different student and employment markets etc. 👉 A school should critically review its programme when it rises, not just when it drops. 🤨 It's based on incomplete data of varying degrees of trustworthiness. ⌛ It is how things were, not how they are. Much of the ranking is a reflection of decisions or conditions a few years ago. 🦸♂️ MBA programmes don't suddenly become 'better' or 'worse' overnight. Silicon Valley this ain't! 👥 In practice, almost nothing separates MBAs several places apart. You certainly wouldn't notice an appreciable difference in 'quality'. Agree? #businessschools #financialtimes #mba #careers #mbarankings #mbaadmissions
