How to get an in-house creative job at brands like Gymshark and Lounge 💡
I was 28 when I applied for a creative job at Gymshark.
Before that, I had spent 7 years bouncing between jobs in Birmingham and London.
- Telesales
- Photography assistant
- Handbag shop
- Hotel bar
- Receptionist
- Junior graphic designer at a chicken factory
- Junior artworker at a small advertising agency
- Freelance artworker
- Photographer's agent
In that time, I applied for hundreds of roles at all kinds of dream companies.
I got ghosted most of the time.
And I had a lot of rejections.
But eventually, the stars aligned.
I found the creative job ad for Gymshark, put a bespoke portfolio together, studied their brand values, spoke passionately about the role, got the job.
The rest is history.
I suppose it was less of a 'career ladder' and more of a rollercoaster.
I had no idea how it was going to end up.
But I knew one thing:
I knew I loved being creative.
I think that's the key.
When you find something you are really passionate about, you can focus entirely on doing that, rather than specific brands or job titles.
I think it's your passion that guides you.
And as a result, I think your attitude is infectious.
People really like that.
Brands really like that.
So my advice is, focus a little less on the brand itself and really invest in you and what you enjoy doing.
If you can do that, and get really good at it, you'll probably find that brands will start to approach you.

🌟 **The Power of Collaboration: Why Hiring Professionals Makes All the Difference** 🌟
Today, I had the pleasure of capturing an engagement photo shoot that was flawlessly organized by a talented event planner. This experience reaffirmed the incredible value of hiring professionals who excel in their craft.
When experts come together, magic happens:
✨ **Seamless Coordination**: Working with an experienced event planner ensured that every detail was thoughtfully arranged, from the perfect location to the ideal lighting. This allowed me, as a photographer, to focus entirely on creating stunning, meaningful images.
✨ **Stress-Free Experience**: For Jamal and Ashley hiring professionals meant a relaxed and enjoyable experience. They could be in the moment, knowing everything was under control.
✨ **Exceptional Results**: With everyone bringing their expertise to the table, the result was a series of beautiful photos that truly captured the couple's love story.

It’s 10AM and the studio is buzzing.
The models are in makeup, the camera crew is setting up, and I'm in the middle of it all, making sure every detail aligns with the vision we've crafted. This is the part of the job I love—when everything starts coming together.
In this shot, I’m double-checking that we’re hitting all the right notes for the brief. As a producer/director, my role is to take an idea and turn it into something tangible. From casting talent to hiring the right crew and equipment, it’s all on me to make sure the concept comes to life exactly as envisioned.
Once we're on set, my focus shifts to the talent. It’s not just about getting the shot; it’s about creating an atmosphere where the models feel confident to deliver the emotion we’re after. Being a trained photographer helps here—I know how to speak the language of lighting and camera angles, which means I can guide the team and the talent effectively.
Every shoot is a balancing act of creativity, logistics, and a little bit of magic. And that’s why I love what I do.
As the Olympics wrapped up, while many were rooting for their favorite teams and athletes, our focus was elsewhere. We were engrossed in analyzing the branded graphics, logos, ribbons, medals, and every other visual detail—essential for us to understand how these elements can evoke emotions in billions worldwide.
Our Chief Creative Officer, Leo Bandeira offers his perspective from Copa Design on the 2024 Olympics, delving into the visual elements we observed. For a deeper look, check out this 3-minute read: https://lnkd.in/e7ZG_5SY
I’m eager to hear your views. What did you think of the Olympics—please share them in the comments below.

After witnessing the grandeur of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games’ Closing Ceremony, I am now ready to delve into the unique aspects of the Games’ logo. Crafted by the independent Parisian agency Royalties, the logo’s creative process and visual development are worth exploring.
I don’t usually analyze the work of other professionals, first because I’m not a specialized critic and second because I lack the necessary behind-the-scenes information that can positively or negatively influence the results of a project of this magnitude.
However, having worked in agencies and led teams in Brazil and the USA for over 25 years, it was my duty to share my understanding with my team, former colleagues, clients, or any followers who might be interested.

Players in the creative industry should consider hiring veteran photographers and videographers because of their extensive experience and refined skills. These professionals bring a wealth of knowledge, having honed their craft over many years, which enables them to capture moments with precision and creativity that newer talent may lack. Their familiarity with various environments, equipment, and unpredictable situations allows them to adapt quickly and consistently deliver high-quality results. Additionally, their deep understanding of storytelling through visuals can enhance a project’s impact, making them invaluable assets in a competitive, content-driven market.
"Hello, LinkedIn network!
I’m curious to know what **specific skills and qualities** companies are currently looking for when hiring **photographers, videographers, and mixed-media artists**.
Why are they seeking out these professionals, and what **styles or tools** are most in demand? Any insights on how to stay competitive in this evolving creative industry would be greatly appreciated!"
How much does it cost to do a photo / video shoot?
I get this question all the time and it all comes back to these 3 components:
- Scope / Deliverables
- Production Quality
- Resources
We can do shoots on a budget for $5-10K and at the same time, we do projects that are $100k+ (and beyond).
Here are the key factors that make a difference in the budget:
- Pre Production Timing: This is all dependent on the level of production and the budget to product the shoot.
- Deliverables: What are the clearly defined deliverables for the shoot? Is it 5 variations of a 90-second commercial? Are you shooting 50 different products for Ecomm Shots that need 7 selects each? Always Start with the deliverables that are needed.
- Production Talent (Photographers, DP, Videographer, Art Director, Creative Director, Producer, Hair/Makeup, Grips, Production Coordinator, Production Crew, Lighting techs, Audio Tech, Camera Tech, Production Assistant).
- On-camera Talent: How many talent will you be shooting? What's their pay structure? (Day rate or base + usages royalties)
- Location: This can be as simple as a studio rental to full homes/specialty locations (like beaches).
- Props: This can be as simple as a few hundred dollar budgets for simple props to as complex as bringing in cars, specialty wardrobes, boats, custom sets, etc....
- Production Equipment: What type of cameras are you shooting with? It can be as simple as 1 camera with a videographer to a full camera crew with grip trucks.
- Permits: if you plan to have a full crew, you are most likely going to have to pull permits
- Insurance: Any shoot will need an insurance cert pulled to cover the production. This will be required by venues/equipment rentals/vendors.
