Thought provoking post by Lori MacVittie re: #GenerativeAI and #latency. The problem with latency is that states are changing while you wait, so whatever "reasoning" is being done might not leverage the latest information. In time-sensitive and mission-critical use cases that's a No-Go problem. You wouldn't want your collision avoidance or turn-by-turn Navigation to be even 2-3 seconds late, same would apply for factory automation or robotic surgery, etc. Those may be dramatic, but even issues with ordering and inventory require tight synchronization and determinism. I think the answer is hybrid-AI - GenAI with classic AI, analytics and rules-based logic to get best performance and outcomes. The antidote to #GenAI hype is solid architecture, separation of concerns, fitness for purpose! As I'm sure Lori appreciates - there is no school, like the old school : )

Privacy concerns: Sensitive data collected could lead to misuse or discrimination. AI is ALREADY everywhere: Those eerily personalized ads? AI algorithms at work. Your smartphone's face recognition? That's AI, too. Fraud detection systems? Powered by AI learning patterns. But at what cost? As AI gets smarter, we need to ask ourselves: are we sacrificing too much privacy for the sake of convenience and efficiency? Let's talk! Is the efficiency boost worth the risks? Here we have an example of how AI should NOT be implemented. I see some comments in the thread arguing the idea that efficiency and effectiveness are not one in the same. I do agree with that, however, the bigger issue is this is nothing more than survelliance motion detection. Some of this research is very quickly becoming more of an anti-human solution rather than a tool for humans to better utilize data. At its core, AI is supposed to aid humans in the mundane in order to allow more time to do more uniquely human things. Instead, research like this aims to find a solution to make employees more artificial. There is a ton of research showing how positive social interactions at work aid in effectiveness and minimize turnaround. This is not the answer. It is very clear to see how this kind of research could be used against the behest of humankind and their means to make a living. Universal basic income is not the answer and a dangerous move to allow governments to dictate how much money you are allowed. At the end of the day, humans get a lot of purpose in our work and we don’t need another area of society where socializing with others is eliminated like we have seen across society with the implementation of technology in the last few decades. This model will lead directly to this. Just my thoughts…

Do you like your boss? Do you like your boss watching over you every minute of the day? How would you like to be scored by your AI empowered boss? Worker efficiency goes up with these tools but to what end? How would you like to be evaluated by an eye in the sky or through the internet of things? Would you like your bonus attached to these metrics? Would this impact your mental health? Is this ultimately good for the workplace? Bosses and business owners care about profit. Do they place profit above mental health? Do workers have a right to privacy at work? Will complaining only encourage bosses and owners to adopt more AI and robot replacements for human workers? The tools are here, it's up to We The People to decide on the future world we will live in. Governments, owners, and bosses ultimately listen to the people. But not if we are uneducated and silent. Get smart and get loud. Make your opinion on AI known. Vocalizing human needs today will change the future of humanity and its approach to these transformative technologies tomorrow.
