One quote that resonates deeply is about our relationship with nature: What we are doing to the forests of the world is but a mirror reflection of what we are doing to ourselves and to one another. It’s a poignant reminder of our interconnectedness and the urgency for action. As we reflect on the environmental challenges we face, it’s crucial to recognize that knowledge is important, but action is imperative. The recent article highlights five inspiring TED Talks that delve into the essence of ecosystem restoration, climate change, and our collective responsibility. From insights on economic systems that protect our shared resources to the disarming case made by young climate activists, these talks pave a way towards understanding the transformative actions we can take. What struck you most about these themes? How can we, as individuals and communities, mobilize to restore our planet? 🌍💚 https://lnkd.in/entCqiiP

Highly interesting paper from OECD colleagues, on #climatepolicies that achieved major #emissionreductions. 💡 The paper highlights the importance of sectorial and country context for choosing the right policies. It shows that the most effective policy measures vary across countries, depending on their level of development. ➡️ Link to the paper: https://lnkd.in/emNSyUmw
🏆Very glad to see that our paper 'Climate policies that achieved major emission reductions: Global evidence from two decades' was listed among the top 25 climate papers most featured in the media in 2024 according to Carbon Brief. Great collaborative effort, led by PIK - Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research, with many brilliant people, including Annika Stechemesser, Nicolas Koch, Ebba Mark, Elina M. Dilger, Patrick N. Klösel, Laura Menicacci , Felix Pretis, Nolan Ritter, Moritz Schwarz, Helena Vossen & Anna Charlotte Wenzel. Key messages ✅ There is no one-size fits all approach: Successful policies and policy mixes vary across sectors and country groups ✅Policy mixes are more effective than stand-alone policies ✅Developed and developing countries have different policy needs Link to the paper: https://lnkd.in/emNSyUmw Link to the other top climate papers in 2024: https://lnkd.in/emkYvNs2 #climatepolicy | #climateaction | #whatworks

✍ Full pact is available here: https://shorturl.at/KqPFQ ✍ And below some good overviews of key themes and pledges: https://shorturl.at/7rCld https://shorturl.at/fUcjL https://shorturl.at/AuNAu The pact reaffirms COP 28 outcome and pledges to “transition away from fossil fuels in energy systems in a just, orderly and equitable manner”. Clearly, more work is needed to turn these commitments into actions; and it was critical for the (fragile) global consensus on these commitments to be reaffirmed this week in New York.
🍎 Good morning New York! ICYMI, today is the second day of the #SummitOfTheFuture where world's leaders may (or not) agree to shape a just, sustainable future via a Pact for the Future. It's heartening to see climate movements seize this opportunity to shape a positive narrative on climate action and claim our right to a safe future. 🤝 We can all stand behind them and play our part, it's as simple as: 📌 Reading (and signing!) this Open Letter from Parents to World Leaders by Our Kids' Climate calling for fossil-fuel phase out to #ProtectWhatWeLove https://shorturl.at/BvLoQ 📌 Watching (and resharing) this video from Potential Energy Coalition about hope, love and climate action https://lnkd.in/dk9HpAbu Thanks to all those who made this happen including Our Kids' Climate Outrage + Optimism and Potential Energy Coalition
