Small outboards were the first segment to be electrified within the maritime industry. But where do we stand today? And will we electrify 100 % of the market? This and many other interesting questions were addressed in a panel talk at METSTRADE today. Together with Will Sangster, Steve Bruce, Georg Schmidinger and hosted by Christoph Ballin and Ed Slack we discussed our industry of the million niches and how to approach the market in future. My key take-aways: ⚡️ Find modular solutions to cater the market ⚡️ Technology transfer is crucial to get to standardized solutions ⚡️ Pushing technology development together will get us there faster ⚡️ Education: the customer has to understand what he gets – and it is so much more than a propulsion system - a pleasureful, powerful and respectful interaction with nature ⚡️ Customer experience is key, especially in recreational boating as it enriches peoples‘ lives Our industry is changing rapidly and we are happy to be at the very forefront and actively shaping these changes. Thanks to all the participants for this interesting discussion, because, as Will Sangster put it, “this is an all-of-the-industry-lift”! #Torqeedo #METSTRADE2023 #NextGenPropulsion #ElectricBoating

Thank you for these insights. Coming from a CPP perspective (megayachts & naval) and recent exposure to „light as life improvement“ industry, I have made similar experiences I can share: - Modularity or parametric scaling has shown to be a key to cost/benefit ratio - Technology transfer within adjecent industries (CPP / hydro power) has really propelled us forward (sorry for the pun) - In-house technologists / hydro dynamic experts are a key lever to develop solutions with customers on eye level. - Silence, no vibrations, no troubles, low environmental impact – KPIs for CPPs as well as electric propulsion, it seems. - All propulsion solutions seem to share a similar fate: best not to be heard, felt or seen. - Maybe a little like illumination: „I don’t need the source I just need the light.“ Fabian Bez, I feel I may have hijacked your post a little, sorry for that. It is a very exciting industry and I see connections left, right and center….
