04/01/2024 - FOOTAGE RELEASED: San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Deputies (police officers) fatally shot an unarmed teenager who was the victim of an abduction in 2022. The involved deputies seemingly were not wearing body cam technology, or did not have it activated (this is my take at least). Body cam footage was not available for this incident, only dash cam and helicopter footage. This county receives an $8.4 billion yearly budget (2022). Their officers are hired and “trained” to protect their people. Here are a few ongoing issues in city, county, and state policing: 1) Sham hiring. 2) Bad training. 3) Unlawful stops, searches, and seizures. 4) Killing of innocent people. 5) Civil rights violations. If I did this, I would be charged with murder. When will this fuc**** stop? #police #sheriff #lawenforcement

I was an ortho trauma/hand surgeon in Chicago for 40 years. The train stop in the pic is just south of the "Gold Coast" downtown area. Train stations and areas under "the el" have had rashes of violent crime including robberies of cell phones, murder, and pushing riders onto the train tracks. Putting our violent crime problem into some perspective: -Lack of consequences: The Cook County State's Attorneys office was a revolving door under Kim Foxx. Thankfully, she will not be running for re-election. Experienced prosecutors have left the office partially for this reason. Local judges have commented that human brains are not fully developed until age 24 or so, so how can we hold people accountable for their actions before then? If arrested, there is no bail and the offender is usually back on the street in hours. -Roadblocks to concealed carry: It is possible to obtain a concealed carry permit in Chicago but there is a six month or longer backup in processing the paperwork. There are also no training facilities in the city but they are available in the suburbs. -Public areas such as parks, schools, hospitals and many private establishments are "gun free zones." -Transporting firearms in vehicles makes them legally unavailable to law abiding citizens. What to do? -The odds are somewhat stacked against you but: -Have your "head on a swivel" also called "Condition Yellow" by Col. Jeff Cooper or "relaxed awareness." Be a people watcher. -Don't travel alone in deserted areas. -Get concealed carry/self defense training despite the impediments. -Stay off your phone in public. Pay attention to your surroundings. -Avoid late night travel if possible. Realize that your safety is at least partially your responsibility. You may not be a sheepdog but please don't be a sheep. How does someone like this become a Chief? What a complete violation of the trust of your subordinates and an abuse of the power of the Office of the Chief of Police. To so blatantly solicit a relationship with and asking for nude photos from the wife of his subordinate makes me believe there must have been other egregious behavior and misconduct by this Chief before. Most often a person does not get caught doing something wrong the first time they do it. To behave in such a brazen manner over a social media site indicates he was confident he would get away with it, which leads me to believe he has done this before with out facing consequences. It is often because of abusive behavior such as this that line Officers build up a distaste and distrust of the Law Enforcement Command Officers and Administrators. The effectiveness of The Police Agent in Law Enforcement Operations cannot be understated. One of these projects can often encompass 5 to 10 years of a Police Officer’s career. There is a massive amount of support and resources required to manage a file involving a police agent. When an Officer has to engage in a gunfight or to have to take a life to save another it is often one of the scariest and or worse moments of their lives. But when an illegally armed man fires multiple shots at Officers when fleeing from an attempted contact, they leave the Officers no choice. The Officers must take the lawful and necessary steps to stop the threat in order to protect themselves, their partners, and the community. They did what was right and I am glad their Commissioner is standing by them. I always find it interesting how a clear cut legal shooting is often used by activists or agenda driven politicians to criticize Officers and Law Enforcement. A man carrying two knives is shot and justifiably killed by #PoliceOfficers when he disobeys the Officers orders and then charges an unarmed man. However, members of of the nearby “homeless encampment community” the criminals family claim the Officers unjustly killed him because the Officers were out of state Officers assigned to assist with Republican National Convention and should have never been there and that their presence causes the criminal to behave in the manner that he did. Then a group of protestors/activist show up to put on a show against the Officers actions. This is what is wrong with the world today, criminals are viewed as victims and the Police are viewed as the enemy. Members of homeless encampments which are often extremely disorderly, chaotic, lawless, and cause problems for the surrounding neighborhoods are considered a “community” with special “rights.” People believe that Police should only perform the tasks they are assigned to an nothing else. The belief that everyone and every incident can be deescalated and force should never be used. Simply put, there are a lot of fools out there. A #Cop is a Cop no matter where they are. These #Officers took immediate, effective, proper, lawful and justified action to end a deadly threat from an armed and dangerous man. Their actions saved the life of an unarmed person. The only person who is at fault for this #criminals death is the criminal. There are, in my opinion, three main reasons for the increasing numbers of persons killed by police officers in this country: 1) mental illness is still widely untreated today, and treatment facilities are woefully inadequate. 2) It is far too easy to obtain firearms in this country today. The more citizens that are armed, the more likely some of those citizens are willing to use them against law enforcement. Also, red flag laws that are designed to strip certain persons of their right to possess firearms due to previous violent threats or actions are inadequate as well, and vary from state to state. We need to strengthen our nation's red flag laws. 3) from what I've seen of some recent police shootings that resulted in the death of armed subjects, I would say that the numbers of 'suicide by cop' shootings are also on the rise. I've posted a few videos here of OIS that, in my opinion, involved armed subjects who were literally surrounded by police officers, with no possibility of avoiding capture/arrest, and yet made the decision to go out in a hail of gunfire by either shooting at or pointing their firearm at responding officers.

The National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund today reported that 136 officers in the U.S. died in the line of duty in 2023. That is the solemn and bad news. It was encouraging to see, though, that this number is 39% lower than the 224 officers who made the ultimate sacrifice in 2022. Gunfire was the number one cause of death among officers (47), followed by job-related illnesses (40), and traffic-related incidents (37).
