The HOPE Scholarship has awarded over $14 billion to more than 2.1 million Georgia students—and I was one of them. This is why I’m here today. I had the privilege of attending a powerful panel discussion at the HOPE Global Forums with the former mayor of Atlanta, Andrew Young. He shared insights about how the HOPE Scholarship program began and the growth in young people pursuing college education. In this clip, he highlights my alma mater, Georgia State University. Without the work of people like Zell Miller, Andrew Young, Maynard Jackson, and their colleagues, I wouldn’t have been able to afford college. I’m grateful for the opportunities I’ve had, and hearing this story reminded me how much their work has impacted me, my family, and many others in Georgia.
