Today, we celebrate the International Day of Education 2024: Advancing Learning for Lasting Peace. As adults, we can take action to co-create opportunities and liberate approaches to education in this global context. That includes democratizing research in education, bringing multidisciplinary perspectives, and enabling citizens within our workplaces to lead healthy and fulfilled lives by considering their current and social future, cultural, economic and environmental contexts. Let's continue to ask politicians to invest in public education for better public policies for our citizens!

🟠 Keynote Speaker, Facilitator & Coach 👉🏾 Say GOODBYE to BORING & BLAND keynotes 🟠 Innovation, Leadership, Change, Grit, Inclusion
An important video to watch. Themes of identity, biases, misrepresentation, early intervention, and intergenerational connection. In my work with young people, support around identity and belonging has been key to them thriving.
Education is the key to success in Australia! So, how do we ensure young people achieve educational success? Our Junior Rhinos Project at Afri-Aus Care Inc. in partnership with RMIT Social Equity Research Centre, initially funded by the Victorian Health Promotion Foundation (VicHealth) was featured in the ABC News last night. Service-learning is a powerful approach to education that promotes student learning and development while addressing human and community needs. Philippine Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) are recognizing the value of service-learning and are actively integrating it into their educational systems. We did a qualitative study that examine the mechanism of service-learning in five Jesuit higher education institutions across the Philippines. Using Furco's Self-Assessment Rubric, we evaluate the institutionalization of service-learning and find that each institution exhibits unique experiences and different levels of implementation. However, what is clear is the shared commitment of these institutions to service and social justice as part of their mission and identity. By implementing sustained commitment and persistence, we can ensure that service-learning becomes an integral part of higher education institutions across the Philippines and beyond. Interested to establish service learning in your institution? Read about the important factors to consider to institutionalize service learning. https://lnkd.in/gyZQE8nF

~What does the educational institution’s vision sound like? ~What does the school vision include as an aspiration? ~Who should the school vision target the most—students only, school staff only, parents only, or the whole school community? ~Does the school vision tell insiders and outsiders where the institution is aiming to be within the anticipated timeframe? ~Does the school vision tell what the institution is going to be like in terms of the quality of graduates, resources, and teachers as compared to its old self or other institutions in the same industry in the anticipated future? ~And how is the school vision measured to tell whether the vision that was set five years ago has been achieved or not? ~Does the vision remain unchanged, or is it always updated as depending on the inputs collected from the school stakeholders as well as directives, laws, and regulations as they stand in the present moment. SCHOOL VISIONS Here are some of the educational institutions’ visions as they were extracted from a few selected schools; DIS: Dar es Salaam Independent School. “All members of the DIS community will fulfil their potential and be confident, innovative, and responsible, having acquired knowledge and life-long learning skills. Having cultivated a sense of responsibility to themselves and the DIS community, students and staff will be able to excel in their lives in Tanzania and across the world/globally.” IST (International School of Tanganyika). “IST will be a global leader in the education of internationally mobile young people. All students, regardless of their starting point, will think critically, achieve academically, and develop the wisdom to make good choices. They will show curiosity and creativity in addressing authentic problems, both local and global. They will pursue their varied passions with enthusiasm, developing resilience, perseverance, and confidence. Understanding the diversity of people and cultures, they will act kindly, fairly, and responsibly. All members of the IST community will work together to fulfil this vision.”

In preparation for the formal launch of the M.K Turner Report, we had the privilege of connecting with a number of Children's Ground Elders and community leaders from Central Australia and the Top End in Melbourne. Thank you for sharing the findings, your own lived experience and the incredible outcomes that First Nations-led education is having on children through Children's Ground and other grassroots organisations who are making change across the country! The M.K. Turner Report is a landmark report that has been developed with more than 60 First Nations education experts representing a diversity of Nations. The Report offers six key recommendations, the central recommendation is for the Australian Government to commit to the establishment of a new First Nations education system, designed and led by First Nations people. The reports present national and international evidence that shows the critical importance of children learning through their First languages and cultures as the foundation for success in learning and lifelong economic opportunity. The M.K. Turner Report offers a very clear First Nations-led solution and a roadmap to system reform that will work to effectively and sustainably Close the Gap. Last week they were in Canberra alongside members of Utyerre Apanpe (First Nations Educators Network) to meet with with parliamentarians and key federal departments, launch the M.K Turner Report and advocate for the establishment of a First Nations Education system.
