Call for Presenters: Deadline Extended - Now 5PM on Friday 9/13! Answer the call here: https://lnkd.in/eMCxvmKM At this year’s Annual Conference, we are exploring what it looks like to embrace innovation at our sites, whether that means re-envisioning the stories we tell, utilizing new technologies, or enacting meaningful change in our workplace culture. The conference will be held on Tuesday, October 15 at Reid Castle at Manhattanville University in Purchase, NY (Westchester County). It will be a full day of learning, conversation, networking, office hour opportunities with grant funding organizations, as well as a lite breakfast, luncheon, full-day exhibit hall, the Awards for Excellence ceremony and poster session, and more! The Annual Conference will once again feature the extremely popular "Follow the Speaker" format - blocks of 10 minute TEDx style presentations followed by opportunities to speak with presenters further to help sites engage at a more direct level. We are interested in presentations that address the following: * What does AI mean for the museum field - use in exhibitions, social media, everyday workflow, etc? * Examples of how your site has created immersive experiences, or used AR or VR successfully. * Examples of hi-tech results on a low-tech budget. * Discussions of successful grant applications for bringing new technologies to your site. * How to integrate AI-powered text and image generators and AI assistants, into museum work. * Opportunities presented by extractive AI in libraries, archives, and museums. * How to create museum policies around the use of AI. * How museums can help educate the public about AI - recognizing AI generated images, deepfakes, etc. * Examples of how sites have stepped away from 'this is how we've always done things' and tried new ways of work. * Discussions about rethinking your site's narrative, exhibits and programming - successes and challenges. * How utilizing new technologies can increase accessibility. Thanks to the generosity of our "Speaker Sponsors" - our fantastic GHHN Board - all presenters will attend the Annual Conference with complimentary registration. It's funny, I am very often surprised when people share their 'insights work' because mostly what people uncover–and then proudly share–are observations, not insights. Insights should feel like insights. They should hit you in the same way. (Your head might move back a little.) You might notice–and then realise–something fairly fundamental - and feel driven to act on it, to have a 'design impulse' of some sort. Some people are really good at getting to that point, and others not so much. One person that I rate very highly in the 'insights space' is Nick Bowmast. He's super thoughtful, super smart, and asks very, very good questions. He's innately and endlessly curious. He's an excellent design researcher. And Nick is, very thoughtfully and with great care, as you might expect, pulling together a conference on design research. He's drawing together a diverse and interesting group of like-minded insights enthusiasts: people that yearn for, and earn by, uncovering real insights. They'll share their work, their craft, and their lessons. I'm going to run a session that'll help you explore Values Aligned Project Potentials: How you might feel your way to doing more of the sorts of things in your work that make you nod your head and go "Yeah, this is good. This is right. I believe in what I am doing." So, if you're curious, please come join us. Come meet some likeminded people, share your stories, and share your insights. Let's share in the light of insight.

The First 30 Days into my Full Pivot to Data Visualization & Computational Design 🧑🎤 This month, I hosted Synesthesia Night, my first-ever artist meetup! I proposed the idea for an audiovisual creator meetup to PHLOTE, aiming to bring a livecode.nyc vibe to Baltimore—and the support I’ve received from both the PHLOTE and Live Code NYC community *and* the DC Modular Society has been incredible. Curating this event was such a beautiful experience. Each artist brought something special—whether through sound, visuals, or immersive media. One of my favorite parts was building a projection mesh over 9ft tall, giving artists a captivating surface to display their work. I also presented some of my own creative code loops using Hydra Live Synth (hydra.ojack.xyz)—with @ppinkyring’s set creating the perfect vibe for it. John (@kodachrome_x) came through for Synesthesia's OpenHDMI meetup, showcasing his inspiring TouchDesigner WIPs. Meanwhile, other friends used old TV hardware to generate authentic analog glitch effects and even built a vintage glitch arcade installation with PlayStation games, which they demoed for everyone. Big thanks to David Zollinhofer IV (@thadabwizard) and Brian Dinkel (@dinkiepie_) for those amazing setups! Everyone’s set was amazing. From organizing the event to onboarding performers, managing logistics, and building the mesh, the entire process reaffirmed what I love: creating spaces where art, data, and technology converge. Synesthesia Night wasn’t just an artistic celebration—it was a personal milestone for me. I look forward to continuing to build in this space—combining data and design in unconventional, meaningful ways. If you’re into creative technology, data art, or collaborative showcases, I’d love to connect and hear about your journey! Let’s build together 💻🎨 #CreativeCoding #DataVisualization #ComputationalDesign #Synesthesia #AudiovisualArt #CreativeTechnology

Blind Spots-- FOMO triggered a spontaneous trip to the Southern California desert to see the aurora borealis. It taught me a profound lesson about visibility and inclusivity. We set out expecting to "see" the aurora borealis through our camera lenses, open-minded and hopeful. But despite the awe-inspiring dark sky above, geographical constraints rendered the lights invisible to both our eyes and cameras. I found myself deconstructing the visible northern lights and reconstructing them as an "invisible experience"—an imaginative interpretation inspired by sounds, emotions, interactions, and the environment. This mirrors the work of blind photographer Evgen Bavčar, whose story I discovered in "worldesign" magazine during the World Design Capital San Diego Tijuana 2024 event. Bavčar’s work challenges our perception of ability and creativity, transforming the unseen into profound art and urging us to rethink how we design with others. In the back of my mind, I’d been considering inclusivity from multiple perspectives related to my brief but thought-provoking border crossing: language, culture, and socio-economic status. Inspired by Bavčar and my work with Cloud Club Collective, I envisioned turning my travel data into an audio narrative, making the invisible visible not just for those we design for, but for ourselves as designers. Inclusive design goes beyond surface expectations. It deconstructs assumptions and reconstructs understanding to create experiences that resonate with everyone. By turning data into sensory narratives, we can make the unseen aspects of our experiences accessible and felt by others, much like Bavčar transforms his invisible world into powerful imagery. Thought Cloud: Listen to the simple audio reconstruction of my invisible northern lights experience- what do you feel? *Post made with YONDER GPT, YONDER Web App MVP built by Nick Aschenbach Aurelius Solutions, & WeVideo #Imagination #InclusiveDesign #Creativity #WDCSDTJ2024 #DesignThinking #PurposefulDaydreaming
