🎭 2032 or 1932? Why Brisbane Olympics is a Laughing Stock! 🏟️ Brisbane’s plans for the smallest Olympics in over a century have been unveiled, sparking criticism and concern. The Queensland government's new images for the Queensland Sports and Athletics Centre (QSAC) show a modest 40,000-capacity stadium, starkly contrasting with previous Olympic stadiums like the Stade de France and SoFi Stadium. 🔍 Why This Matters: 1️⃣ Minimalist Design: The QSAC features just one permanent covered grandstand with temporary seats, leading some to label Brisbane a "hillbilly town." 2️⃣ Missed Opportunities: A global design alliance, including local Brisbane architectural practice Buchan, Nikken Sekkei Ltd, and HKS, Inc., proposed modern, sustainable "legacy building" stadiums built from timber and featuring blended greenery. These designs could have created iconic, distinctly Australian stadiums. 3️⃣ Government Decisions: Queensland Premier Steven Miles rejected a $2.7 billion Gabba redevelopment and instead opted for retrofitting existing venues. This decision has drawn criticism for missing a "once in a generation" opportunity to elevate Brisbane's global profile. 📝 Highlighted by HKS Director Andrew Colling, the proposed timber-rich designs could have featured a parkland observation deck and a cocoon of timber and sandstone, creating something uniquely South East Queensland and distinctly Australian. 🔗 Learn more about Brisbane's controversial Olympic plans and the alternatives that could have set a new standard: https://lnkd.in/gjdzQ738 🗣️ #questionforgroup: How can cities balance cost constraints with the need to create iconic and sustainable venues for global events like the Olympics? Have industry overcome the throw away culture? In all elements of life and industry, we surely now understand the necessity to respect all resources and decrease unnecessary consumption. Certainly, manufacturing understand this as it relates directly to profit but is this true in #realestate? There can indeed be an end to the efficient and usable life of buildings when their operation and maintenance becomes unsustainable, both financially and environmentally, but in some cases, the vision to undertake quality refurbishment to upgrade facilities to the highest standards and in doing so, eliminate huge volumes of CO2, certainly lags. Well done to Sunrise Properties and the complete team involved in reinvigorating Rugby 661, to best in class! The results speak for themselves. Read more here: https://lnkd.in/e78Qx9Bc

We have big news to share: Hussey Seating Company has entered into an agreement to purchase select assets from Camatic Seating, an Australian-based competitor known for its high-quality chairs. This strategic move fills a key gap in our current product line, allowing us to make rail mounted exterior beam seating, considered to be the de facto standard in new outdoor stadiums. Additionally, this expansion means a wider variety of seating options for the arenas, auditoriums, universities, and places of worship we partner with, solidifying our position as the global market leader in spectator seating. The transition of Camatic’s assets into our manufacturing operations will take time and we will provide regular updates throughout this process, but we look forward to combining the high level of quality that Camatic has come to be known for with the power of Hussey’s global infrastructure. The transaction is targeted to close by the end of June. For more information, visit https://lnkd.in/erddSstG Photo provided by SoFi Stadium. #HusseySeatingCompany #SeatingSolutions #BusinessGrowth

The construction industry is evolving rapidly, with sustainability at the forefront. From the world's first Sports Stadium Hotel in Cross-Laminated Timber at Adelaide Oval, built in 75% less time than current custom construction methods, to the under-construction highest Hybrid/CLT office building in the world in Sydney, an over $1bn project, innovation is reshaping the sector. Imagine Test Cricket without rain delays under the most extensive ALF sporting stadium roof in timber. The planned new AFL stadium in Tasmania will host diverse events and boost tourism significantly. Australia's Thrive Alliance consortia members are geared to address the affordable housing shortage nationwide with scalable solutions in advanced modular construction and fast-to-market solutions. With over 100,000 major urban reference CLT projects globally, the scalable solutions presented to state governments aim to meet Sydney's yearly demand for 25,000 inclusive residential mid-rise apartments. An all-day capability presentation by the Thrive Alliance consortia members in Adelaide sponsored by BusinessNSW last year. The Thrive Alliance consortia are led by a proven Placemaker with over 50 years of experience with major urban projects with a sense of social responsibility in all previous major urban projects, setting aside between 30% to 50% in all significant urban projects for affordable dwellings with no mandatory requirements just through my initiative and sense of social responsibility. Exciting times lie ahead as the industry embraces sustainable construction practices and tackles critical challenges head-on with speed-to-market solutions in advanced modular construction with great design, detailing, and finishes, minimising expensive building materials waste that goes to landfills, which is unsustainable. #ConstructionIndustry #Sustainability #Innovation #AffordableHousing #AustraliaTourism #CLT #ThriveAlliance
