Today marks 6 years working at Tekkie Town - reflecting on this last night I put down 6 thoughts from these years: 1. Retail is a completely different beast from the industries I worked with both in my earlier career and in the 12 years I ran my agency. Even my years running my wholesale and licensing business didn’t quite prepare me for the rhythm of retail 2. The people behind the stores are as important as those on the floor. The support structures build the foundations that allow the stores to fly. The stores are the heartbeat. 3. It doesn’t matter what you think - it matters what the customer thinks (this is true of all business - but the customer votes daily in retail) 4. You can only work with what you have. This includes product, people, investment, structures etc. Even within the gaps - the play is dependant on what is possible. The trick is harvesting those opportunities as best you can. 5. I worked with the ‘Bomb Squad’ at Tekkie Town. It took everything we had. I am so grateful for the people that trusted and believed in us and in me to give me a role. 6. The trick behind the hustle - is remaining gentle. It’s always a person behind the sale, a person behind the post, report, target etc. There are a LOT of people I can thank. And a lot of people that I learn from daily. I hope I have offered up hard work, gentleness and a view point that allowed for new thoughts. This business both broke and rebuilt - in many many ways for me personally and as a business. It’s one to watch. #leadership.
