I have been following recent discussions on the immense opportunities and significant risks associated with #AI. This new playbook from the World Economic Forum is a welcomed guide, not only for investors but also for those involved in AI development. It explores the essentials of advancing responsible AI adoption. Based on extensive research and over 100 stakeholder interviews, this paper encourages investors to engage with corporate boards, investment partners, and the broader ecosystem to promote responsible AI adoption. Generative AI, initially hailed as a transformative force for businesses, has fallen short of expectations. Companies underestimated the resources needed and overestimated its impact, with many initiatives not scaling effectively. Challenges include a lack of AI strategy, talent, and data infrastructure, along with issues of AI "hallucination" where models produce inaccurate outputs. Adoption remains limited to pilots and select use cases, with firms struggling to deploy AI at scale. A survey revealed first adopters' decreased confidence in their tech, often using AI to augment existing processes rather than rethinking them fundamentally. Mr Ang Yuit, President, ASME said "Many small and medium-sized enterprises are using gen AI tools for personal productivity tasks rather than job or process transformation. These firms could integrate gen AI into business processes, such as enhancing customer service through sentiment analysis or for swift and accurate first-level customer inquiries.
