🔍 Exploring the Intersection of IIoT and ISA/IEC 62443 Standards 🔍 As the industrial landscape evolves, integrating IIoT (Industrial Internet of Things) with existing systems presents both opportunities and challenges. I recently delved into a comprehensive report on implementing and certifying IIoT systems using the ISA/IEC 62443 standards. This report is particularly relevant for those of us in OT/ICS security, as it addresses how to secure cloud-based functionalities within Industrial Automation and Control Systems (IACS). 👉 Key Takeaways: ➡ Extending ISA/IEC 62443 to the Cloud: The report highlights that while ISA/IEC 62443 standards are robust for traditional IACS, they must evolve to cover cloud-based components, particularly when these can directly or indirectly affect the physical state of equipment. ➡ Operational Technology as a Service (OTaaS): A new category called OTaaS is proposed to define cloud services that control or manipulate physical processes.
