"While the overall number of job postings advertising a four-day workweek remains low, that number has tripled in the last several years, according to data from Indeed. With employee burnout at an all-time high and organizations fighting to attract and retain top talent, flexible work options are becoming increasingly popular." Five reasons why the four-day workweek is gaining traction: 1. Employees Resist Return-To-Office Mandates 2. Fridays Are Unproductive 3. 4-Day Workweek Trials Are Successful 4. 4-Day Workweeks Benefit Company Culture 5. AI Is Making The 4-Day Workweek Inevitable "The four-day workweek is an increasingly attractive concept for employers striving to attract talent, boost retention and enhance workers’ well-being. With more and more companies testing the approach, it’s only a matter of time before adoption becomes widespread. I shared this an article on a UK experiment where organizations shifted to a 4 day work week last year, and here's an update: "In 2022, 61 companies moved their employees to a four-day workweek with no reduction in pay. They began it as a six-month experiment. But today, 54 of the companies still have the policy." While the article does point out some use cases where a shift to 4 days may not be feasible, it highlights that change requires a dedicated effort. Where the switch to a 4 day work week was successful, organizations made concerted efforts to find ways to be more thoughtful with their time (e.g. limiting meetings to 30 minutes). While I'm sure it was not all smooth sailing (as no change this size is), they were ultimately able to find a way to make it work by staying the course. While this is a relatively small sample size (61 companies), I have no doubt that many of us could take a similar lens to our roles / organizations to make a 4 day work week a reality.

💼 The Future of Work: The 4-Day Workweek? 💼 The conversation about a 4-day workweek has been around for ages, but it often seemed like a pipe dream. We've all heard the debates: some say it's long overdue, while others argue it could never work. But now we have solid data to discuss! Thanks to YouTube - now I Know that 5-day workweek was popularized by Henry Ford in the 1920s. He discovered that reducing the workweek from six days to five increased productivity and boosted employee morale. Fast forward a century, and we're now exploring whether we can take this further with a 4-day workweek. 🔥 Exciting Results from the UK Experiment 🔥 In 2022, several companies in the UK embarked on an ambitious experiment to trial a 4-day workweek. And guess what? The results are nothing short of impressive. 📊 Key Takeaways: Productivity: Employees managed to complete 100% of their work in 80% of the time! Imagine achieving the same (or better) results in less time. Employee Well-being: 96% of employees reported an improvement in their personal lives, and 86% said they felt more productive. Retention & Recruitment: 50% of companies saw a reduction in employee turnover, and 32% found it easier to attract new talent. Business Impact: Post-experiment, 51% of the participating companies decided to stick with the 4-day workweek. These results are encouraging, sparking conversations about whether the 4-day workweek should be adopted more broadly across various industries. The Confederation of British Industry (CBI) suggests that while not all sectors might be ready for a shorter workweek, other incentives like higher pay, bonuses, or longer vacations could be explored. It’s an exciting time to rethink how we work. As we continue to gather more data and refine our approaches, we could be on the cusp of a significant shift in the work culture. What are your thoughts? Could your industry benefit from a 4-day workweek? Let's discuss! #WorkLifeBalance #4DayWorkWeek #Productivity #FutureOfWork #EmployeeWellbeing

Really interesting article on the 4 day week. I have a couple of clients who work a 9 day fortnight, and they find this works really well, I don't have any that do a 4 day week.... yet! As someone who works reduced hours I completely resonate with what they are saying about working smarter and more effectively with the time you have. Can we really see this being implemented soon - what are your thoughts?
