► The Biggest Mistakes Of My Career #3 ► What Went Wrong Betfair, now part of Flutter, operates as a person-to-person betting exchange where individuals can place bets on the occurrence (‘Back’) or non-occurrence (‘Lay’) of events. 🧨 It became apparent after a software release that Back bets were being incorrectly placed as Lay bets, essentially the opposite of what the customer intended. ☔︎ This scenario, in which the exact opposite of what the customer intended was happening meant that the worst thing that could ever happen was happening...gulp. What We Learnt The new software had only been released to one market—a mid-week mid-afternoon greyhound market, so literally only one bet of £35 was affected. We rolled back the release and credited the bet as if it had won. The customer was happy and there were no ramifications. ► By micro releasing, we could avoid being risk averse and still “move fast and break things,” relatively confident in the knowledge that breaking something wouldn’t cause massive financial or reputational damage. CEO & Founder @ UGI Studio | Boutique Game Co-Development, Art, Animation, VFX Outsourcing | 10+ Years Studio Experience
Day 1: You start with a cheap prototype. (save $) Day 180: You're facing a complete rebuild. (spend $$$) Publishers: "Stop signing games that cannot scale." Tight budgets, pressure to deliver quickly. Working with small teams means you save today, but pay tomorrow when it's time to scale. Here's the deal: A common publisher strategy is to sign many small teams to save money on prototypes. So far so good. When game is ready to scale? The team is often in big trouble. Building a new team takes months. No senior talent on the team. No established processes. Recently we have been approached for such projects. To rebuild, and scale games from smaller teams. So the situation: Short-term gain turns into long-term pain. Mobile game dev moves incredibly fast. Big players can and do take inspiration and from your hit They can and will scale faster. So what's the takeaway here? If you get what you want (a hit) Ask yourself, can you scale it? ↓ Publishers if this sounds familiar, and you are looking for a new co-dev partner. DM me "SCALE" and let's chat.

Interesting post Leila Hurstel. The only issue I would like to mention is that in todays "value communication" it's only the very high-end lifestyle being promoted with very little to no reference to environmental risks, links to education or for that matter any skill development one need to be able to get that final result which is promoted glamorously. The current youth and the next generation are growing up in an advanced technical environment in which a lot is programmed for them by all kinds of AI-solutions ... this means that a lot of people grow up with having things presented to them on a silver platter. So, my personal question is how you see "it's about redefining the value exchange between brands and consumers in the new era of Web3" happening in a balanced (durable in our society) fashion? We must not forget that all this advanced technology will also be used by the current Criminals, Dictators, Terrorists and all the other dangerous and disruptive individuals I forgot to mention.

| Co-Founder at SOFi | We make innovative sustainable paper products | Entrepreneurship | Sustainability | Innovation |
5 years ago I quit my 6-figure developer job to start my business with my brother For 4 months we earned $0. Here’s why I’d do it all over again: 1) I get to choose my people My team My clients My community → All have a growth mindset. 2) I create the life I want I work when I want I exercise when I want I travel when & where I want → I have full control of my time & place. Goodbye attending too many meetings. 3) I LOVE what I do Helping businesses become more eco-friendly Creating products that benefit the environment Seeing people’s reaction when they try our cups for the first time → I found joy in developing new products. I found joy in making an impact. And building a company. 4) I have the freedom to implement new strategies in a blink of an eye No holding back ideas No asking for permission No corporate games to play → No more 4-steps approval You see… Choosing no income was hard. Choosing to leave a cozy job was hard. Choosing no more career path was hard. Choosing to go against the people I know was hard. But no one else creates my life but me. Looking back, would I do it all again? Absolutely.

Last year I had the opportunity to work in a very enjoyable project, a big client from Asia hired me to build a Slot Machine game. (I'm not trying to incentivate anyone to get in gambling here, I'm not a player myself too) The client requirements: 1. Must be scalable to millions of users around the globe. 2. Must be fast. 3. Must be cheap in terms of infrastructure. 4. Must be easy to signup and play. 5. Must be customizable. 6. Must accept payment from anywhere. My decisions to accomplish the project: 1. AWS Cloud to scale fast. 2. Vercel to have the frontend high available, fast and present on all globe. 3. AWS and Vercel, are cheap platforms if you know how to use it. (and if you have a cloud native application running properly of course.) 4. I used One Time Password (a OTP code by SMS) to handle the authentication and the UX is quite simple and inspired on Fortune Tiger game. 5. The APP is quite easy to customize by swapping the sprites and assets. 6. I used Stripe to make it easy to accept Credit Card from the anywhere in the world. You can see the results here and also play the game: https://lnkd.in/d4mFyBFD The client asked me to don't disclosure the "winning algorithm", this algorithm is a very special result of years of study of mathematicians and doctors, so the client made me sign an NDA for this. However, the whole code is available if you want to make your own on-line Casino. Just make it for fun ;) The API in Severless Framework: https://lnkd.in/dZwAfWPr The frontend in React: https://lnkd.in/dcC-Gb2P #softwaredevelopment #awscloud #vercel #gamedevelopment #onlinecasino #casino #gambling #entertainment
