Strategic Communications Leader ➥ Crisis Communications | Public Speaking | Political & Policy Communications | Executive Policy Analysis | Strategic Advisement
As a #jobseeker & #veteran I find this platform infuriating most days. It's frustrating enough the unsolicited messages from men presumably real and not bots from far off countries telling me how beautiful I am (save it pal), but some of the recent messages from #recruiters is enough to drive me bananas. "Hey Kathleen! I reviewed your profile and resume and am so impressed with your background. You'd be a great fit for a position I'm filling for a fire alarm technician!" - I've never worked fire suppression, hell I've never been a first responder. "Hey Kathleen! I reviewed your profile and resume and am so impressed with your background. I have a position that pays well for a Company actively seeking someone like you! Just register for this free webinar to learn more!" -....seriously? The company ended up being an insurance firm in Canada looking for phone sales reps. Just because I'm a #veteran doesn't mean I qualify for any old technical job nor does it mean I'm desperate. I'm a seasoned professional with a proven record in #strategiccommunications , #crisismanagement, #leadership, and #policyresearch. I'm NOT interested in becoming a CDL driver, a security professional in Iraq, or a supply chain technician II. Don't be lazy, don't waste my time.

I attended Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance's conference. I made a plea to have Operational Policy 5 changed, it was revealed that the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration has issued guidance that MCSAP funds will not be used for voluntary inspections. I did learn that Montana State Patrol has a FMCSA approved random volunteer inspection program. Carriers have to sign up with the state police, then are entered in a quarterly drawing to have inspections performed at the carrier's terminal. I did listen to the presentation with Scopelitis Law Firm's logo. There was discussion of a pilot program for 3rd party contractors to conduct New Entrant Safety Audits or perform quality assurance audits on the program. I struggle with the concept as I see it as a foot in the door for civilians to perform functions that may result in a new entrant carrier being shut down. The FMCSA's eFOTM has instructions on who may perform safety audits: "New Entrant Carriers (U.S. and Canadian motor carriers) The eFOTM Enforcement Manual June 1st 2022 60 | P a g e Under 49 CFR 385.307(c), all records and documents required for a new entrant safety audit must be made available for inspection upon request by an individual certified by FMCSA to perform safety audits. New Entrant (U.S. and Canadian) motor carriers that deny authorized personnel prompt access to inspect and copy any record or inspect and examine equipment, lands, buildings, and other property necessary to complete the safety audit are considered to have refused to permit a safety audit under 49 CFR 385.337. In those instances, Safety Auditors should follow the procedures established for refusing to submit to a safety audit under § 385.337. (Refer to eFOTM Safety Audit Manual section 3.1.2 Special Procedures for SA's.)" Page 59 and 60 at https://lnkd.in/gefyTNXV Contractors are not Special Agents of the FMCSA or sworn law enforcement officers of a particular state. IMHO? Third party contractors have no business conducting warrantless searches (safety audits) allowed by 49 CFR/USC and state laws as due process doesn't apply to non-law enforcement entities. The FMCSA and CVSA has forgotten the principles of the Constitution and the Fourth Amendment in Americans protected in their homes and businesses. The FMCSA's eFOTM has instructions regarding the events that take place when a carrier denies a FMCSA special agent access to the records and 49 CFR Part 386 addresses penalties for carriers that deny the FMCSA access: Appendix B to Part 386—Penalty Schedule: Violations and Monetary Penalties (h)Copying of records and access to equipment, lands, and buildings. https://lnkd.in/gbvWYbrD Contractors has no business doing government law enforcement work.

Today marks 2 weeks since I was impacted by the RIF at Checkr. I have noticed a few things that can be very frustrating for job seekers. The lack of pay and benefits information is a commonly mentioned frustration. Job seekers don't want to waste your time anymore than our own. Imagine seeing what appears to be a perfect fit skills and career wise only to find out it pays less than you can accept plus the cost of benefits is twice what you anticipated. Tied in level of frustration is attempting to make jobs something they are not. I saw a job posting for an "Appearance Technician", "technician" is a key word I have been looking for but it was a truck detailer. The job entailed washing and shampooing carpets in rental box trucks. Not every position is a technician, specialist, or analyst. That's perfectly fine, trucks need detailing and the person who is looking for that job likely missed the posting due to the job title. Office job titles can be clerks or associates and again that is acceptable. Lastly, failing to realize experience can be as useful, if not more so, as a degree. If you aren't specifying a job related degree and accept any degree, why isn't relevant experience acceptable? Is someone with a history degree going to be a better fit for customer service manager than the high school graduate with multiple years in the field and supervisory experience?

After the better part of four months on this massive ship, my contract as a safety consultant on Icon of the Seas is almost up. This gig has been one of the most challenging of my career, requiring me to draw on nearly every aspect of my experience and to rapidly acquire technical knowledge. I’m glad to have been on the ship and am grateful for yet another adventure. #safetyconsultant #entertainmentsafety #stuntsafety #theatresafety #riskmanagement #riskassessment #iconoftheseas
