Great news to be able to share this. Much of our public sector work is down to the Crown Commercial Service frameworks we supply to including RM6195, Big data & analytics and G-Cloud14. Had an amazing time at Big Data London last week, sharing the hard-earned lessons from building Airbyte over the past four years. I tackled a big question: If I were building a data movement tool from scratch today, what would I do differently? https://lnkd.in/gQAdFnJ5 Every time I attend a data convention (at least one a year!), I like to wander the floor with the curiosity of a 6-year-old, absorbing all the new innovations. It’s a refreshing way to see what the industry is brewing. This year, one trend really stood out: the growing overlap in data infrastructure tools, both in terms of functionality and positioning. I believe this reveals 3 underlying truths: 1) Maturity: The data infrastructure space has matured. The challenge isn’t education anymore—most people know where Airbyte fits and how to address gaps in their data stack (whether it’s schedulers, orchestrators, or pipeline management). Now, the focus is on using the right tools for complex, tailored use cases like federated data layers. 2) The Market is Inefficient: Despite the internet's vast reach, mindshare still varies drastically by region and domain. I heard comments like, “Oh, we hadn’t even heard about that tool yet.” This underscores that competition isn’t always a matter of capability but of visibility. This is a counterpoint to the common VC question of: 'Why can't existing competitor X eat your lunch?' 3) Narrative is Everything: Corollary to #2. “Build it and they will come” is a myth we all know too well in the startup world. The real challenge is crafting a narrative that resonates. As technologists, we need to build flexible platforms that can evolve with market demands while delivering a killer product and user experience. Great energy last week; let's stay in touch everyone.
