The Food is Medicine Institute held its first-ever Food is Medicine Advocacy Day yesterday - what a great day with nearly 90 participants from at least 18 states and DC! We educated Congress on the concept and importance of #foodismedicine and the role it can play in addressing the growing disease burdens, costs, and inequities in diet-related illnesses in communities across the nation. Food is Medicine (FIM) interventions reflect the critical link between nutrition and health, integrated into health care delivery. These include programs that provide nutritionally tailored meals, groceries, and produce to support disease management, prevention, or optimal health and are linked to the health care system as part of a patient’s treatment plan. The Food is Medicine Advocacy Day was proudly organized by the following collaborators: American Heart Association, Harvard Law School Center for Health Law and Policy Innovation, Food is Medicine Institute , Hunger Free America, Instacart, John Hancock, National Produce Prescription Collaborative, Pennington Biomedical Research Center.
