Forging Leadership through Service Recently, I had the privilege of volunteering at a fundraiser event for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in the Hamptons. The experience was transformative, reinforcing my deep commitment to St. Jude's noble mission. Founded by visionary Danny Thomas, St. Jude stands on an unshakeable principle: no child should be denied treatment based on race, religion, or financial circumstances. The impact is staggering. In just six decades, treatments pioneered at St. Jude have catapulted childhood cancer survival rates from a mere 20% to an astounding 80%. This monumental shift has touched millions of lives globally, all stemming from one man's vision! This experience made me reflect: What will my legacy be? What will yours be? How are we impacting our communities, our country, and our world? As leaders, we have a responsibility to leave this world better than we found it. This is why I cherish my role as a leadership coach, trainer, and mentor to many young women. Let’s lead together. Leaders are made, not born. We can all leave a lasting legacy. Share your ideas💎on how we can create a positive impact, so my many ‘silent readers’ and I can learn and grow together. Ps. Watch out for my newsletter on this topic💡

I've been debating whether or not to bring up this important topic. But after the "Great Resignation" across multiple nonprofit organizations, how are you as either the incoming staff leadership or board leadership handling issues surrounding "Founder Syndrome"??? Articles like this one talk about what not to do, but how do you navigate change management if you find yourself in an organization doing some or all of the "do nots" on this list??? https://lnkd.in/guiKqXXc

𝐆𝐞𝐧 𝐙 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐌𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐧𝐢𝐚𝐥𝐬 𝐚𝐬 𝐝𝐨𝐧𝐨𝐫𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐟𝐟 Recently I was commissioned by a charity to do a piece of research into young adult (Gen Z and Millennials) engagement - something which a lot of charities and brands are doing, which made my desk research much easier. This article from the Chronicle of Philanthropy covers a lot of what I found in my qualitative research; one of my key findings is charities (and brands) can't hope to effectively engage with young adult supporters if they don't adequately support, nurture and listen to their young adult staff. On the other side of the coin, I went to an excellent event with Ali Hendry and WE CREATE SPACE earlier this year on ageism and EDI, where I was forced to examine my own biases about older generations - and was introduced to the biopsychosocial model of wellbeing, which has been quite influential in my methodological approach to qualitative research, report writing, and my own self-care. As with many things, creating safe spaces for meaningful dialogue (sharing, listening, and...pondering?) are necessary for creating trust and change. Time, too. #NonProfitResearch #GenZ #Millennials #Zillennials #EDI #YoungAdultEngagement #Philanthropy
Young leaders are eager to transform society, but they also want to change nonprofits and philanthropy — by addressing burnout, ensuring grant making is more transparent and democratic, elevating young people to leadership positions, and more. The Chronicle's Nandita Raghuram recently joined Manu Meel, CEO of BridgeUSA, to host a vibrant and honest conversation with three young leaders in the nonprofit field — Anthony Sartori, Esme Hyatt, and Sim Bilal. The status quo isn’t working, these three leaders argued, and many older leaders in the field don’t seem to realize it, or even support the idea that change is needed. Just getting to know your board members well enough to understand how they can best be utilized to advance your mission can take months and sometimes years. To help you shorten this process and improve the board experience, you need to quickly understand each member’s preferences and skill set. So, how can you identify board member preferences and engage them in right-fit roles for the success of your organization?
