Is there a year you remember with nostalgia? For me that year is 2011 when I started dating my wife, and when I graduated for the first time. I mean nothing could go wrong, right? The first signs came when I received my first salary and blew it all in a week. And yes I am here to publically admit that: ➔ I struggled to save for a deposit to buy our first home ➔ I struggled to save on a monthly basis to build an Emergency Fund ➔ I struggled to make ends meet when my children were born, and used more than 80% of the Emergency Fund You may find this hard to believe... but it's true. But I am passionate about learning fast, and now thanks to these struggles I am a better person. I never treated money as a taboo, maybe it's what helped me learn faster. Personally I have done that in several occasions until I realized that I have been influenced by impulse. Now I make a decision of buying a clothe and what type exactly before I go to the market. We need to start being a bit more honest with ourselves (and our audiences) money is important for most of us. Unless you're in a very privileged position most of us have a need for money to meet our needs: paying our mortgage / rent, living the life we want to live. If we don't have money / we're worried about money we often are in a survival / threat mode which means our sympathetic nervous system can be in flight / fight / freeze : many of us have the fight mindset down to a T with a hustle mentality (I know, I've been there) Money may not be the only driver of having a business yet it's for 99% of the population with businesses it's going to be one of them: of course we have other drivers: flexibility in our work, freedom to work anywhere, impact on others. Even the public and third sector operate in a way that money is important : I've worked in schools which have a huge deficit : it's a hard place to be, I've supported charity CEOs who are way off their fundraising targets : it's tough. Money doesn't need to be a dirty word: wanting financial rewards doesn't mean you're greedy and it doesn't mean you are going after all of the money : it means you're looking at building a sustainable business which is not only good for you it's good for your customers and your employees. If you say you don't need money you're in a very privileged position in this world!

Personal finance is probably not what you think it is. It's not spending less and saving more. It's not picking the best investments to put your money into. It's not all the little details and numbers of everything to the exact penny. What it is, is personal. We tend to leave that out a lot for the sake of providing good rules of thumb. But the reasons that you should budget, and invest wisely, and crunch all the numbers are what personal finance is all about. It's about the why. But the "why's" can be very different. Your "why" may be because you want your kids' futures to be better than yours. It may be because you want to leave a legacy to your church or favorite charity that everyone knows was provided, but few know who it was provided by. So as you go into this weekend, take a minute to ask yourself... Why?

😂 I plot the relationship between what someone tells me they spend vs what they actually spend. 📝If someone says they check their budget weekly, that probably means they are spending about what they think they are. An excellent financial habit is to audit your spending regularly. 🙄 No one has ever admitted to me that they spend “a lot” of money(whether spending is $3k/month or $20k/month). The reason is there are things you want to get but are not, and spending could be higher in your mind. Chances are that the person's “not spending a lot” rate is higher than they think. ✂️ If you feel like you need to cut back on your spending, it probably means you are spending much more than you think you are, and problems are starting to arise. Common signs are carrying a credit card balance, cashing in long-term investments to fund lifestyle and refinancing loans to consolidate debt. 🙏🏿 If you have reached the point where you have no idea what you are spending but there is trouble, a good resource is the Credit Counselling Society (or any province). They are a non-profit that can help you get a plan and deal with the psychological factors that cause overspending. #debt #spending #laugh

I was on a call with someone who lost all their money.. In a real estate deal. To someone they had trusted. It had been several weeks and their partner stopped answering phone calls.
